Conor McGregor never boxed Logan Paul. McGregor announced talks for an exhibition in India in December 2024, and by January 2025 he told an interviewer the UFC would not give him permission, while Paul said he would focus on professional wrestling.
McGregor’s next fight was in the UFC instead. He returned at UFC 329 on July 11, 2026, and lost to Max Holloway in the first round after injuring his knee in the opening seconds.
What happened to McGregor vs. Paul
McGregor first put the fight forward in December 2024, saying he was in preliminary talks to face Paul in an exhibition in India. On January 25, 2025, ESPN reported his explanation for why it stalled. “The UFC just aren’t into it,” he said. “The offer was there on the table, in writing.”
McGregor called the bout a “glorified spar” that the UFC was not keen on, and said he still wanted a boxing event against Paul or another influencer. Paul, a WWE star, had said he would concentrate on wrestling. Both the UFC and WWE sit under TKO Group Holdings, a point McGregor made himself.
This page backed McGregor at +120, against Paul at -150, when the fight was first floated. With no fight, there was no result and no bet was ever graded.
McGregor’s return at UFC 329
McGregor had not fought since UFC 264 in July 2021, when a broken leg ended his third fight with Dustin Poirier in a first-round TKO by doctor’s stoppage. A planned return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June 2024 fell through when he broke a toe.
UFC 329, billed as McGregor vs. Holloway 2, was held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 11, 2026. The welterweight headliner lasted 1 minute and 9 seconds. Holloway won by TKO, with the injury to McGregor’s leg recorded as the cause.
McGregor later wrote that he tore his ACL and meniscus, and said a return in 2027 was possible. UFC president Dana White told reporters that “the Conor McGregor discussion isn’t even worth talking about” until McGregor had surgery and rehab. ESPN reports that McGregor, 38, has one fight left on his UFC contract, and the founder of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, a promotion McGregor part-owns, told ESPN he would “bet everything” that McGregor fights for BKFC once that contract ends.
