Olympic 3×3 Men’s Basketball Odds: Netherlands Won Gold

A lively night scene in Paris, featuring a crowded sports event near the illuminated Eiffel Tower amidst a vibrant atmosphere.

The Netherlands are the Olympic men’s 3×3 basketball champions: they beat host France 18-17 in overtime in the gold medal game in Paris on August 5, 2024. The next Olympic tournament is at the Los Angeles Games, which open on July 14, 2028, and no sportsbook price for it is quoted here.

Lithuania took bronze, 21-18 over Latvia. The United States, who finished seventh in Paris, are already qualified for Los Angeles as the host nation.

The Paris medal games

Both finals were played at La Concorde on the same night. The official box scores from the Games tell the story of each:

GameScoreTop scorer
Gold medalNetherlands 18, France 17 (OT)Worthy de Jong, Netherlands, 7
Bronze medalLithuania 21, Latvia 18Sarunas Vingelis, Lithuania, and Karlis Lasmanis, Latvia, 9 each

The final was tied 16-16 at the end of regulation. The Dutch team was Worthy de Jong, Jan Driessen, Arvin Slagter and Dimeo van der Horst; France had Lucas Dussoulier, Timothe Vergiat, Jules Rambaut and Franck Seguela. France made 2 of 14 two-point shots in the final, and the Netherlands won a one-point game in a sport where a shot from outside the arc is worth two.

How 3×3 is played

LA28’s own description of the sport sets out the rules a bettor needs. Two teams of three share one hoop on an 11-by-15-meter court, with a 12-second shot clock. A game lasts 10 minutes or ends when a team reaches 21. A basket inside the arc is worth one point and one from outside is worth two.

That scoring keeps totals low and margins thin. The gold medal game never reached 21 and went to overtime at 16-16, and the bronze was settled by three points, so a spread of two or three points on a 3×3 game is a big number.

The United States and Los Angeles

The American men went to Paris with Jimmer Fredette, then the top-ranked 3×3 player in the world. He injured an adductor early in the tournament, the rules did not allow a replacement on the four-man roster, and the U.S. played on with three players, lost five of seven games and finished seventh.

Fredette retired in April 2025, then announced his return on September 15, 2026, stepping down as managing director of USA Basketball’s men’s 3×3 program. In his first event back, the FIBA 3×3 Phoenix Challenger on September 20, he was named MVP and scored eight points in the final as Team Miami beat Amsterdam 22-16. He said he wants to see how he plays before thinking about 2028.

Betting the next Olympic tournament

Olympic 3×3 markets open close to the Games, once the fields are known. When they do, turn each price into a chance: +200 implies 33.3%, +500 implies 16.7%, and +1000 implies 9.1%. A gold medal bet is worth making only when you rate the team’s chance higher than that, and in a sport where the Paris final was decided by one point in overtime, that rating should be modest for everyone.
