When it comes to the Winter Olympics, traditional powerhouses are often the way to go for betting. And, as you can see from the odds above, that’s exactly what the sportsbooks are thinking, as well.

For this Olympic prop bet, it’s really a three-horse race: Norway, Germany and the United States. Let’s take a look at each country before making our pick.

Norway -154

Norway is the odds-on favorite just like the Americans are often favored to win the most golds in the Summer Olympics. Simply put, Norway is a winter powerhouse that has the most gold medals in Winter Olympics history with 148.

They’ve won the most gold medals in a number of different Winter Olympics and are heavy favorites in a handful of disciplines including cross-country skiing and biathlon. Additionally, Norwegian athletes are also contenders for other events like ski jumping, speed skating and Nordic combined.

Germany +450

Germany enters the Milano Cortina Games as the second odds-on favorite to win the most golds. However, they’re third in the history of the Winter Games with 105 gold medals all time.

It’s expected that German will dominate in the luge, bobsleigh, skeleton and could compete with Norway in disciplines like biathlon and ski jumping.

Even if they fall short in gold medals, Germany is expected to compete for the most medals at the Milano Cortina Games due to their balance of individual and team skills.

United States +500

Last, but not least, the Americans are neck-and-neck with the Germans for the second best shot at dethroning Norway for the most gold medals in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The Americans are second all-time with 114 gold medals, but come into these Games as the third odds-on favorites to win the most golds.

The United States features some of the biggest stars at the Winter Olympics, which is expected to help them excel in sports like alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, hockey, and speed skating.

Additionally, they have enough talent to be real contenders in other disciplines where Germany and Norway are the clear-cut favorites. USA’s diversity could be their biggest advantage heading into Milano Cortina.

The Most Golds Goes To…

America might have the biggest stars, but Norway is the one country that can score the biggest haul of gold medals. While this country already has history and tradition on its side, Norway is also heavily favored to win more 2026 Winter Olympics events than any other nation.

Where Germany and USA can challenge for numerous golds in a variety of disciplines, the medal-rich sports will conclude with Norwegian athletes standing on top of the podium and increasing the country’s overall gold totals to a level that no other country can match at these Winter Olympics.

Bet: Norway (-154)

Men’s Olympic Curling

  • Great Britain: +100
  • Canada: +225
  • Switzerland: +400
  • Sweden: +1500
  • Germany: +1600
  • China: +3000
  • Norway: +3000
  • Italy: +3500
  • USA: +6500

Great Britain is the favorite, and for good reason. They feature the most complete team in the sport today and are coming off a 2025 World Men’s Curling Championship. The core of this team has experience and eat pressure for breakfast.

Canada is a close second, according to the oddsmakers and pundits alike. They accustomed to medaling in this event at the Olympics and feature a team that is battle-tested along with making solid tactical adaptations during matches.

Switzerland might come in as the third odds-on favorite but don’t underestimate this squad. They captured the bronze medal in 2022, and aim to better that result in the 2026 Olympics. The Swiss have an uncanny ability to be patient and take advantage of their opponents’ mistakes. Consistent high-results in world competitions also make this team a formidable one in Italy.

These three team are the clear-cut favorites for the gold medal. The only other country that I would keep an eye on is Sweden. While they’re further down the betting boards, this option provides excellent betting value as they won the gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

In the end, Great Britain will be too much for the other countries to overcome. Unless the Brits beat themselves, this team is poised for gold. Ultimately, their recent form and world championship victory set this squad up for gold in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Bet: Great Britain: +100

Women’s Olympic Curling

  • Canada: -250
  • Switzerland: +300
  • Sweden: +700
  • South Korea: +1600
  • Japan: +2200
  • China: +5000
  • Italy: +6000
  • Denmark: +7500
  • Great Britain: +7000
  • USA: +9000

While the men might be the second-best team, Canada’s women are the odds-on favorite to win gold at the Olympics this year. They’ve been a powerhouse during recent international events like World Championships. Tactically sound, this squad is the team to beat.

Switzerland enters this tournament as the one team with the best shot of preventing Canada from gold. They have the veteran athletes to handle the pressure of winning a gold medal along with the desperation to finish their careers as Olympic champions.

Sweden is probably the most realistic underdog or longshot to challenge for gold. While they have shown on the international stage that this team can compete with the world’s best, oddsmakers feel that they’re a bronze medalist at best. This presents the best value on the boards.

I highly doubt that anyone outside of these three nations will win a medal. They’re the cream of the crop. I also expect an intense battle between these three teams. In the end, you have to like Canada to win the gold. It’s theirs to lose.

The Canadian women have proven that they’re the best on the international stage over the last year and they have the depth, talent, and leadership to sweep through this competition.

Bet: Canada (-250)

Men’s Olympic Hockey

  • Canada +140
  • USA +200
  • Sweden +550
  • Finland +800
  • Czechia +1400
  • Switzerland +3500
  • Germany +7000
  • Slovakia +7000
  • Latvia +14000
  • Denmark +14000
  • France +25000
  • Italy +25000

It’s no surprise that Canada enters the Olympics as the odds-on favorite to win the gold in hockey. This team is loaded with talent from top to bottom. Led by players like Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, their offensive firepower will overwhelm opponents.

Canada boasts of incredible depth on all of their lines and have the defense to stifle opposing teams. This team has improved their roster from the 4-Nations tournament last year and they will be the squad to beat.

USA is realistically the only team that can beat Canada. At the very least, they’re the only team that can hang with Canada on all lines. The Americans also have plenty of firepower and top-notch goaltending. The defense has elite players but will need to play at their best for USA to win gold.

Sweden doesn’t have as many big names as Canada and the USA, but they will be a formidable opponent. This team will feature arguably the best defense in the tournament. It’s an identity that they embrace in every international game.

Sweden’s team also has a good amount of international experience playing together and feature balance on both sides of the ice. While they’re picked to win the bronze, if USA or Canada slips up then you could be looking at this team climbing up the ranks and challenging for gold.

Finland and Czechia have the talent and cohesion to pull off a major upset on any given day but they lack the top-end talent that the Americans and Canadians possess. And, while Finland is the reigning gold-medal winner, they did that when NHL players weren’t involved in the Olympics. It’s a whole new experience now.

Ultimately, this gold medal comes down to USA vs. Canada. And, while I will be rooting for USA to win, it’s hard to bet against this Canadian roster. In the end, you have to point to their recent success in the 4-Nations tournament as the edge for this Olympic matchup.

The value is with the Americans but the thinnest of edges is with Canada to win gold.

Bet: Canada (+140)

Women’s Olympic Hockey

  • USA: +167
  • Canada: +220
  • Czechia: +2600
  • Finland: +2600
  • Sweden: +7100
  • Switzerland: +9000

Just like with the men’s hockey tournament, the women’s hockey will come down to USA vs. Canada for the gold medal.

However, unlike the men’s, the women’s hockey odds see USA as the favorite over Canada and the rest of the field. In fact, most sportsbooks don’t give any other team a realistic chance at even playing for gold, let alone winning it.

USA beat Canada in OT to win the Women’s World Championship and proving that they’re the odds-on favorite for gold in Italy. This squad has experience, talent, and depth to bully other teams all game long. While their top line is the best in the tournament, the depth across all of their lines will be the difference maker at the Olympics.

Canada has multiple Olympic gold medals in women’s hockey and are a perennial contender to win any international tournament. They have a solid blend of veterans and rising stars on the roster that should put them in the hunt for gold at Milano Cortina. Ultimately, their defense will need to withstand the American offense for Canada to have a real shot at the gold.

Finland is arguably the top non-North American team with any hope of sniffing gold. More than likely, they will finish with a bronze medal. However, recent competitive showings on the international stage have seen this team compete with the best that USA and Canada have to offer. If this squad can dictate pace and get elite goal-tending, then they could pull off a major upset should the opportunity arise.

It’s going to be a thrilling battle between USA and Canada for the gold medal. In the end, I have to give the edge to the Americans. Their recent world championship gold, along with elite scoring and depth on the current Olympic roster, make them the best squad in Italy.

While Canada has the talent to compete and possibly upstage the Americans, USA’s recent win over the Canadian team is just too difficult to ignore. Last, but not least, I think USA also has the best goaltender at this stage of international play. That’s a key advantage that the Americans will ride all the way to Olympic gold.

Bet: USA (+167)
