When and where the next World Cup is played

FIFA’s Extraordinary Congress named Morocco, Portugal and Spain as hosts in December 2024. Those three countries stage 101 matches. Three more, one each in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, mark 100 years since the first World Cup, played in Uruguay in 1930.

FIFA has published the dates as its intended schedule, so treat them as a plan until the match calendar is issued:

  • Centenary games: Saturday and Sunday, June 8-9, 2030, with Uruguay in Montevideo, Argentina at home and Paraguay at home
  • Opening ceremony and opening games: Thursday and Friday, June 13-14, 2030, in Morocco, Portugal and Spain
  • Final: Sunday, July 21, 2030

The six host nations qualify automatically. For a bettor that matters early: Spain, the champions, are already in the field, and so are Argentina, the team they beat in the final. The venue of the final has not been named on FIFA’s 2030 pages.

How the last World Cup finished

The 2026 tournament had 48 teams. It ran from June 11, when Mexico beat South Africa 2-0 at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City, to the final on July 19, and it took in 104 games at 16 stadiums: 78 games in the United States, 13 in Mexico and 13 in Canada.

SemifinalSpainFrance2-0

The third-place game had 10 goals, the most of any of the 104. Bukayo Saka scored three times for England and Kylian Mbappé twice for France, and England led 4-0 before the break.

What the scores say about betting a World Cup game

The 104 games produced 308 goals, 2.96 a game. Hold that against the total on a group game: an over at 2.5 needs three goals, and the tournament averaged just under three.

Level scores after 90 minutes were common. Twenty games ended as draws, and nine knockout games were level after 90 minutes and went to extra time, four of them to penalties. That is 29 of 104, or 27.9%. In a three-way market (home, draw, away) the draw is a real outcome, and in the knockout rounds a book can settle that bet on the 90 minutes while the tie goes on. Read the book’s house rule on extra time before you bet a knockout game. The how to read a soccer spread guide covers the two-way lines that take the draw out.

Props on the scorer, cards and corners are posted game by game. Our prop betting guide explains how they are graded, and the soccer betting guide covers the match markets. For current club and international games, the soccer predictions hub carries the board.

World Cup odds and what a price means

No price on the 2030 World Cup is quoted here. As of September 24, 2026, we have no market we can source and date.

When a board goes up, read each price as a chance. A team at +1200 is priced at 7.7% (100 divided by 1,300), and one at -360 at 78.3% (360 divided by 460). The same price reads +200 in American odds, 3.00 in decimal and 2/1 in fractional, and all three imply 33.3%. The how betting odds work guide has the conversions.

A bet on the tournament winner is a futures bet, and it is worth making only when you rate a team’s chance higher than the price does. A futures stake is also tied up until July 2030. The futures betting pros and cons page sets out that trade.

Handicappers and your staking

A handicapper sells picks. Before you pay one for World Cup games, read our handicapper site reviews, and learn how handicapping in betting works so you can judge what you are buying. Soccer picks are available with a free trial of a handicapping membership.

Whoever makes the pick, the size of the bet is yours to set. A unit is a fixed share of your bankroll that you set once, for example 1%, so a $1,000 bankroll bets $10 a unit. Our guide to what a unit is in betting shows how to count results in units rather than dollars. New bettors can start with sports betting for beginners, and the sports betting strategies guide covers value, line shopping and bankroll rules. A 104-game tournament is 39 days of betting, and a bankroll has to last all of it.
