Xfinity Series Championship Favorites
The following drivers are considered the odds-on favorites to win the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship. Each driver listed below, features their 2024 Xfinity Series season stats and their 2025 stats at the time of publication:
Justin Allgaier
- Wins: 2
- Top 5: 8
- Top 10: 8
- 2024 Finish: 1st
- Career Best: 1st in 2024
Justin Allgaier isn’t resting on his past accomplishments. The reigning Xfinity Series champ is sitting on top of the Xfinity Standings as he leads the field in Top 5s, Top 10s and laps led at the time of this writing. He’s second in checkered flags and Stage Wins.
Allgaier won at Las Vegas and Homestead-Miami in back-to-back races. In fact, he lit up March and April with five consecutive Top 3 finishes.
At the start of the season, before the green flag dropped on 2025, I made the following declaration for the defending champ:
“Allgaier will return to defend his title and become the first driver since 2021, to do so… With 25 career victories, I expect the defending champ to extend his streak of at least one win in a season nine straight years. And, at 38-years old, there’s no reason to think that the veteran driver won’t contend for another Championship.”
After three months of racing, Allgaier has not only established himself as a contender for the Xfinity Series Championship, but he has cemented himself as the man to beat.
Austin Hill
- Wins: 3
- Top 5: 7
- Top 10: 8
- 2024 Finish: 4th
- Career Best: 4th in 2024
If there’s one driver who can edge Allgaier for the championship this year, then it has to be Austin Hill.
The #21 car sits second in the standings behind Allgaier. He also is second to the reigning champ in Top 5s, Top 10s, and laps led. Yet, Hill has more victories and stage wins this season than Allgaier does.
If you recall, Hill led the Xfinity Series last year with four wins as he went on to finish 4th overall. That also means that the #21 car made the Championship Race last year as well.
This year, Hill has won in Atlanta, Martinsville and Talladega. He’s established himself as arguably the best superspeedway driver. The only other driver in the same breath as Hill is his teammate Jesse Love who I am really high on as well.
At the beginning of the season, I asked if Hill could take the step towards winning his first championship in his 4th season as a full-time driver. After three months of racing, the answer has to be closer to “yes” than “maybe.”
Connor Zilisch
- Wins: 1
- Top 5: 1
- Top 10: 3
- 2024 Finish: 33rd
- Career Best: 33rd in 2024
The talented rookie has definitely flashed his superstar potential. The “next NASCAR superstar” is definitely a contender in the Playoffs. Well, that’s if he can stay healthy and return from a back injury that took him out of Texas after crashing in Talladega.
Zilisch stunned the field by winning at COTA, which was the first and only road race of the season up to this point. Unfortunately, he has yet to contend for another checkered flag since then.
Nevertheless, the rookie has the potential to win on any track and at any lap length. He’s showed incredible poise on the track and even better driving skills.
At the start of the season, I said the following about Zilisch:
“I have no doubt that this kid will compete on a weekly basis. I wouldn’t be surprised if he added a few more wins to his Xfinity resume and make the Championship Race in his first full-time season.”
After three months of racing, I still believe he has the potential to make the Championship Race. It will all come down to his adjustments for the second half of the season and his health.
Jesse Love
- Wins: 1
- Top 5: 3
- Top 10: 8
- 2024 Finish: 8th
- Career Best: 8th in 2024
The reigning Rookie of the Year, Jesse Love, is off to a fast start in 2025. He kicked off the season with a victory at the Daytona 500 and had a couple more Top 3 results along the way. Love has been very consistent with a 75% Top 10 finishing rate and is one of the best at the super speedways.
Love’s odds have improved from +1000 to +650. When the green flag dropped on the new season, I stated the following about the reigning Xfinity Series ROY:
“I believe Love can build off of his successful rookie campaign to become a Playoff driver for a second straight season. In fact, with the Playoff experience from last year, I think that Love can actually make a serious run at the Championship Race.”
As of this writing, I am even more confident in Love than I was when I had him as just a value bet. Currently, I now think he’s one of the Top 3 Xfinity Series drivers and I expect the #2 car to compete for the Championship.
Sam Mayer
- Wins: 0
- Top 5: 6
- Top 10: 7
- 2024 Finish: 9th
- Career Best: 3rd in 2023
Sam Mayer left JR Motorsports and signed with Haas Factory team after the 2024 season. It’s safe to say that last year was a disappointment as he finished 9th, which was far below his career-best third place result in 2023.
In February, I brought up the question of whether or not he could bounce back and evolve into an Xfinity Championship contender this season.
Well, the answer to that question is a resounding “yes.” Mayer has a 50% Top 5 finishing rate and a 60% Top 10 finishing rate at the time of this writing. He’s consistently battled for checkered flags throughout the first three months of Xfinity racing.
In fact, I would say that Mayer is the best driver in the Xfinity Series right now, that hasn’t won a race yet. It’s just a matter of time though. Mayer has won seven races over the last two seasons and should pick up at least one checkered flag this year.
Mayer’s consistency will make him a threat to take one of the Championship 4 spots.
Sheldon Creed
- Wins: 0
- Top 5: 3
- Top 10: 6
- 2024 Finish: 6th
- Career Best: 6th in 2024
In February, I pointed out that Sheldon Creed’s Championship odds might have surprised some considering he’s never won a Xfinity race in his career.
Yet, I also stated that Creed’s consistency is key as he put together the following 2024 Xfinity resume:
“16 Top 5s, 23 Top 10s, and a 9.3 average finish. This led him to a 6th place result in the standings by time it was all said and done. He was second in Top 5s, tied for first in Top 10s, and fifth in average finish among the field. Creed also had six runner-ups last year.”
Creed signed with his third team in three years, so there’s been an adjustment period. He currently sits with a 50% Top 10 finishing rate. I expect that number to climb as the season continues.
Creed’s new teammate, Sam Mayer, has excelled so far this season. So, it gives me confidence that Creed will improve on his current NASCAR results.
He came close to winning at Daytona and Martinsville this year as he was third and second respectively. Don’t be surprised when we see the double-zero car in victory lane later this year.
Best Xfinity Series Championship Betting Value
Brandon Jones (+1400) is my best value bet at the time of this writing. His odds have been cut in half due to his stellar start to the 2025 season. At the time of this writing, Jones sits 5th in the standings.
Furthermore, he has already locked a spot in the Playoffs by winning at Darlington in April. He’s also tallied six Top 10s in the first 12 races.
Jones’ odds could shrink even further if he continues to perform at this level of consistency. And, if he can win another race, then Jones could end up being one of the favorites by time the Xfinity Series Playoffs begin.
Top Longshot To Win Xfinity Series Championship
Christian Eckes was my initial longshot bet for this NASCAR prop bet. However, I based on his significant drop in odds, I am now posting Harrison Burton (+7500) as my top longshot bet. Since the start of the season, Burton’s odds have fallen from +2800 to +7500. He went from a value bet to a longshot flier.
Burton returned to the Xfinity Series after spending the last three years in the Cup Series. He made the the following comments about his big return:
“I’m excited to join AM Racing and help build it into the race-winning race team I believe it can and will be. I think this will be a great opportunity for me to take the things I’ve learned in the Cup Series, bring those to the Xfinity Series and be the best driver I can be. It’s a blessing to continue my NASCAR journey, and I intend to make the most of this opportunity.”
Coming into this season, Burton had four career wins in 75 Xfinity starts. Unfortunately, he has yet to win a race up to this point of the season. However, Burton does have a 50% Top 10 finishing rate and is 10th in the standings as of this writing.
At +7500 odds, you aren’t going to find a better longshot than this second-generation driver.
Xfinity Series Championship Predictions
My Top 5 NASCAR picks to contend for the Xfinity Series Championship are Justin Allgaier, Austin Hill, Jesse Love, and Sam Mayer. It’s a toss-up between Connor Zilisch and Brandon Jones as my 5th driver. This really depends on Zilisch’s health moving forward.
I was very high on Zilisch and his odds to win the championship this year. However, I am more impressed with other drivers at this point and leaning away from Zilisch as we get into the summer months of racing.
But I am still not taking Allgaier to win despite his great chances of winning for a second straight year. Since the turn of the century, there have only been three drivers who have won back-to-back Xfinity Championships: Martin Truex Jr. (2004-05), Ricky Stenhouse (2011-12), and Tyler Reddick (2018-19).
Furthermore, it took Allgaier 15 years to win his first title and I just can’t jump on that bandwagon despite his odds-on-favorite status.
At the start of the year, I thought the RCR duo of Hill and Love had a shot to become the best racing team outside of JR Motorsports. Well, at the time of this writing, I believe that they have surpassed JR Motorsports ever so slightly.
With that said, I am taking Austin Hill to win the 2025 Xfinity Series Championship. I love how well he’s driving this season and his consistency as one of the best cars each week.
Bet: Austin Hill (+400)
