One of the more interesting division title races on the MLB futures betting board for the upcoming season is the AL Central. The posted odds to win offer some solid betting value if you know how and where to find it.
Chicago White Sox Team Preview 2021
AL Central Odds: -135
The bandwagon for this Chicago MLB team is almost standing room only as the clear favorite to win the AL Central Division title. The White Sox were one game off the pace set by Minnesota last year with a record of 33-27 in the 60-game shortened schedule. This offseason, they have put together a team that was built to set that pace over the long haul in 2021.
You would have to go all the way back to the 2008 season to find that last time Chicago won the AL Central. Home grown talent combined with a few key offseason acquisitions could bring this extended drought to an end. The additions include pitchers’ Lance Lynn and Liam Hendriks.
The new rotation adds quite a bit of value to going chalk in this divisional futures bet.
Minnesota Twins Team Preview 2021
AL Central Odds: +210
The Twins are going for their third-straight AL Central title this season. They won 101 games in 2019 ahead of last year’s 36-24 record. The main concern over keeping this winning streak alive is the loss of talent almost across the board. More than eight players who made a significant impact on the team’s recent success have moved on.
Minnesota has also remained extremely quiet this offseason as far as filling the void in both its pitching and hitting. While the odds suggest that the players still on the roster are talented enough to keep the Twins in this race, a significant step backwards seems more realistic.
Cleveland Indians Team Preview 2021
AL Central Odds: +525
Cleveland has been the most consistent team in the AL Central for the past several seasons. It has finished first or second in the standings over the past five seasons and the Indians have not finished lower than third since 2012. Yet, this is another team that lost a few key pieces to a championship puzzle this offseason.
The two biggest acquisitions are infielders’ Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez. Cleveland is also looking for more production from a number of younger players that are still on the roster. This team is competitive by nature no matter which players are on the field to add some value to its long odds to win.
Kansas City Royals Team Preview 2021
AL Central Odds: +2800
As the fourth team on the list, Kansas City is not as bad as its posted futures odds might suggest. The Royals remained in the division title race longer than expected last season at 26- 34. This included an even 15-15 record at home.
While the prospect for a major turnaround this season is not that high, Kansas City is going to win a few more games than expected. There is no real value in the odds to win the AL Central but the Royals could be a solid OVER play on projected wins.
Detroit Tigers Team Preview 2021
AL Central Odds: +2800
The Tigers won 23 of 60 games last season after sliding all the way to just 47 wins in 2019. That is quite a bit of ground to make up given the four teams listed above. Detroit fans can look forward to watching a trio of prospects in Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Daz Cameron as a glimpse of the team’s future.
The only intriguing aspect of the Tigers this season is surpassing a projected win total once those numbers are released for the year.
