The Cardinals finished three games off the pace at 30-28 in last season’s 60-game sprint to the NL Central title. Returning to the normal 162-game schedule gives St. Louis a solid edge as the favorite to win this year. In 2019, it claimed those honors while going 91-71.
The ability to keep last season’s roster basically intact while adding third baseman Nolan Arenado in a trade with Colorado makes the Cardinals the most balanced team in this division. It also vaults them to top of this list in what has been a quiet offseason for the NL Central.
Cincinnati Reds Team Preview 2021
NL Central Odds: +250
The Reds were an attractive bet last season while finishing third at 31-29. Going back to the full 162-game schedule could squeeze a bit of value out of their odds to win. This is a solid team on the mound but it still lives in the shadow of the other three NL Central contenders.
You would have to go back to the 2012 season to find the last time Cincinnati paid off on a bet to win this division. The Reds will win some games behind a quality starting rotation and some solid arms in the bullpen. The biggest question marks remain in their ability to score runs on a consistent basis. The overall value as a second-favorite is just not there at +250.
Chicago Cubs Team Preview 2021
NL Central Odds: +325
The Cubs came out on top in 2020 with 34 wins in 60 games. They could offer the best value on the board heading into the 2021 season. The lineup is littered with potential if a few of the team’s best players return to form.
The loss of Yu Darvish from the starting rotation is too big of a loss to ignore. Yet, Ian Happ and Kyle Hendricks are two starters with upside in their potential this season. In the absence of one dominating team, Chicago’s chances are as good as any of the other four teams as it relates to its futures odds to win.

Milwaukee Brewers Team Preview 2021
NL Central Odds: +400
Milwaukee is another NL Central team that leads with its pitching staff. That should keep the Brewers in the division title race through most of the summer. However, the lack of any substantial improvement in the team’s offensive production ends up draining value from the Brewers’ odds.
You can put this team in the category of lucky breaks. If everything goes its way in 2021, Milwaukee could be standing at the top of the heap come fall. However, betting on that actually happening is a whole other story.
Pittsburgh Pirates Team Preview 2021
NL Central Odds: +5000
The Pirates maintain the distinction of being the only team in the NL Central with absolutely no chance of winning the title. Even if they exceed expectations by a wide margin, Pittsburgh would still not be able to sneak past all four teams ahead of it on this list.
With just 19 wins in 60 games last year after losing 93 games the season before, the rebuilding process is going to take a bit longer than expected. Giving up pitcher Jameson Taillon and his untapped potential to the New York Yankees confirms this stance.
