Week 5 of SEC football play looks like a great one as several storylines are playing out. Both Auburn and Tennessee fans have questions about their starting QBs, Arkansas is looking to pull one out against Georgia as both teams are ranked in the top ten, and Lane Kiffin takes on Nick Saban!
Last week Auburn struggled to find a way to beat Georgia State at home and some say it came with the help of some blown calls. Regardless, the Tigers saw a QB change when TJ Finley took over snaps from Bo Nix. This week Auburn faces LSU on a national stage as it’s the 9:00 pm game on ESPN. It will be interesting to watch as LSU is no Georgia State.
One of the bigger games this week is the match-up between Georgia and Arkansas. Both teams come in ranked with Georgia a solid No.2 and the Razorbacks at No. 8 in the polls. The Dawgs have played amazing defense this season and it seems as if their offense is now on fire! Arkansas has been tough on both sides of the ball as well and they want to prove that their 4-0 record is no fluke, more on that below starting with Ole Miss and Alabama.
Biggest SEC Games to Bet on for CFB Week 5
When: Saturday, October 2 at 3:30 p.m. on CBS
Odds: Ole Miss +14.5 (-110) vs Alabama -14.5 (-110)
If you’ve been a fan of Alabama, Ole Miss, SEC, or college football in general then this game is a must- watch. Lane Kiffin is taking on his old boss Nick Saban as Ole Miss travels to Alabama for a 3:30 kickoff on CBS. Why not on ESPN or the SEC Network? Because TV schedulers know a good thing when they see it. The two coaches had some rememberable arguments on the sidelines while they were working together! Now they are opponents. Alabama is the Favorite and No. 1 in the nation but Ole Miss, now with Coach Kiffin, always finds a way to get under Alabama’s skin.
Best Bet: Ole Miss +14.5 (-110)
Arkansas vs. Georgia Picks
When: Saturday, October 2 at 12:00 p.m. on ESPN
Odds: Arkansas +18.5 (-110) vs Georgia (2) -18.5 (-110)
This game has the possibility of being a defensive slugfest of teetering into a quick score highlight reel. Both teams enter at 4-0 with Georgia being 2-0 in SEC play. Arkansas is 1-0 in conference play this season and they seem to have a chip on their shoulders. They want to prove that they are a team worthy of being ranked inside the top ten. Georgia is averaging 42 points per game after a slow start of the season against Clemson. Arkansas comes in slightly behind at 35.8 points per game. The Dawgs QB, JT Daniels, has a completion rate of 76.1 while K.J. Jefferson is at 59% for his Razorbacks.
Best Bet: Georgia -18.5 (-110)
When: Saturday, October 2 at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN
Odds: Auburn +3.5 (110) vs LSU -3.5 (110)
Week 5 of SEC play caps off late Saturday night with Auburn at LSU as the premier game on ESPN. This is a key SEC West matchup with the Tigers 1-0 in conference play and Auburn just now starting its SEC matchups. The big question is who will be Auburn’s QB? Last week No Nix was sidelined and TJ Finley stepped in for the game-winning drive. LSU QB Max Johnson comes into the game with 1,144 yards and 14 touchdowns and is coming off a 28-24 win against Mississippi State with a defense that has 18 sacks on the year. Both LSU and Auburn seem to have a knack this year of getting a penalty at the worse time. This game could be a classic SEC gridiron slugfest.
Best Bet: LSU -3.5 (110)

2021 SEC Football Week 5 Predictions
When: Saturday, October 2 at 12:00 p.m. on SEC Network
Odds: Tennessee +3 (-105) vs Missouri -3 (-115)
Both Tennessee and Missouri are looking for a conference win. The two teams enter the game with exact records going 2-2 overall but 0-1 in conference play. Tennessee lost to Florida last Saturday while Missouri was taken out by Kentucky in the second week of the season. Vols coach Josh Heupel seems to like keeping his starting QB decision close to his vest. A quick touchdown or field goal at the end could decide this game.
Best Bet: Missouri -3 (-115)
When: Saturday, October 2 at 3:30 p.m. on SEC Network
Odds: Troy +7 (110) vs South Carolina -7 (110)
Troy and South Carolina are going to face off two strong defenses this weekend. According to NCCA stats, as of last week, Troy was the No. 4 ranked defense in the country with 18 sacks this season. The Gamecocks come in at No. 28 on defense but are favored by a touchdown. Troy wants an upset and South Carolina needs to stop a two-game losing streak.
Best Bet: South Carolina -7 (-110)
Florida vs. Kentucky Picks
When: Saturday, October 2 at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN
Odds: Florida +8.5 (110) vs Kentucky -8.5 (110)
The 10th ranked Gators are taken on the Wildcats this weekend in what is shaping up to be an exciting game in Lexington. Both teams are coming off wins with strong offensive play but the key will be if either defense can shut the other team down. Kentucky is coming in with the 9th ranked defense in the country.
Best Bet: Kentucky +8.5 (-110)
Mississippi State vs. Texas A&M Picks
When: Saturday, October 2 at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN
Odds: Mississippi State +7 (110) vs Texas A&M -7 (110)
Last week Mississippi State put up 15 points in the 4th against LSU as they went for the comeback win but it was not enough – losing 28-25. Texas A&M dropped from No. 7 in the country to the 15th spot following their flat game and 20-10 loss against Arkansas. Both teams need to swing back as weaknesses were exposed for both teams during last week’s games.
Best Bet: Mississippi State +7 (-110)
UConn vs. Vanderbilt Picks
When: Saturday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU
Odds: UConn +14.5 (110) vs Vanderbilt -14.5 (110)
This is one I am steering clear of. Two teams that both need a win! Vandy was destroyed by Georgia last week 62-0 for their 3 rd loss of the season including an embarrassing home defeat to start the season against in-state foe East Tennessee State. UConn comes in 0-5 on the season and needs to beat the Commodores to get back on track.
Best Bet: UConn +14.5 (110)
