Churchill Downs has four grades races on Saturday highlighted by the Arlington Million. One thing in common in all four the races is a turf track.
The Grade 2 Secretariats Stakes is for three-years old colts. The prize purse is $300,000 for the one mile turf race. The three-year fillies compete the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes. The 1 1/8 mile race on turf has a purse of $200,000.
The Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes has $500,000 up for grabs. Fillies and mare three and older will compete over 1 1/8 miles in turf. Princess Grace running in third is one the favorites. Rougir, with Manuel Franco as the jockey, is a favorite as well.
2022 Arlington Million Predictions
When: Saturday, August 13th 2022
Where: Churchill Downs
The Arlington Million is a Grade 1 contest for three and older. The trip around in 1 1/8 miles on turf features the best in trainers from Brian Cox to Michael Maker. The field in set and my favorites would be Smooth Like Straight, Admission Office, Field Pass and Scared Life.
Win: Smooth Like Straight
As a class favorite in the field of contenders, Smooth Like Straight is probably a right choice. He finished in the money in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita Park and the Grade 1 Make’s Mark Mile in two races this year.
With Michael McCarthy as trainer and jockey John Velazquez filling the role for the No. 4 position, this race is built to his liken. Father by Midnight Lute, the five-year old as the history for success given the one mile track.
Place: Admission Office

The Kentucky-bred seven-year old slipped to fifth in an ungraded Grand Couturier Stakes at Belmont Park at 1 ½ miles in July 8. In Churchill Down on June 4, he completed 1 1/16 miles in champion form in the Grade 3 Arlington Stakes.
The son for Point of Entry, he has raced on turf his entire career. Admission Office as the necessary skills and home track advantage to pull off this. He as the veteran’s ability to finish in the money.
Show: Field Pass
Trained Michael Maker, Field Pass covered first, second and third in five of the six races he started. The Maryland-bred five-year horse was victorious in the Texas Turf Classic at Lone Star Park his last time out.
He is going off in the No. 3 position with jockey Reylu Gutierrez at his side. With Lemon Drop Kid as his father, Field Pass could keep the tradition of making more money runs.
One to Watch: Scared Life
Going off No. 2, Scared Like would be my “one to watch” in this race. Trained by Chad Brown, the seven-year horse scored first and second in the last two graded events. Fathered by Siyouni, he has a knack for running alongside the champion.
