The high-speed excitement of a race at Talladega Superspeedway is behind us. That means it is time to jump from a high-speed track to a road course and slow things down. Next up is the 2022 running of the Bank of America Roval 400 which is held on the combo track that incorporates the road course and front stretch of Daytona Motor Speedway.
A road course race is different from a superspeedway race as some of the unpredictable elements of a huge wreck eliminating multiple cars are reduced. That’s why oddsmakers are leaning towards teams and drivers that have proven records. That starts with Chase Elliott who comes in as the lone favorite to win outright this Sunday.
Elliott has become one of the best road course drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series. The driver from Dawsonville, Georgia comes in at +500 but he’s not alone. Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick are lingering nearby. Larson, the defending track winner on this Daytona Roval course, comes in at +800. But Reddick has a slight advantage as oddsmakers have him at +600. This may be a week where we need to look for some value down the odds list.
But don’t expect a bunch of cars to be left in the dust if you consider past races. Last year there were 31 of 39 cars finished on the lead lap. Only six cars did not finish the race and four of those were because of wrecks. One of the drivers that were caught in a wreck early was Kevin Harvick who comes in this week at +2500.

The excitement is locked in this week as this is the final race in the Round of 12 for Cup Series drivers. Chevrolet has the last three wins on the Roval. Elliott has won this race twice, Larson once, and Ryan Blaney won the first Roval race in 2018.

2022 Bank of America Roval 400 Predictions
Chase Elliott +170
Chase Elliott has won two of the four NASCAR Cup Series races on the Charlotte Roval. One of those came dramatically after he missed the braking zone in the first turn which caused him to drive nose-first into a tire barrier. Then, he raced back to the front after many counted him out, and he won the race. Last year he was the front car for 27 of the 109 laps run. Elliott has won seven road course races in his Cup Series career which is the most among active Cup Drivers.
Tyler Reddick +600
Tyler Reddick has won three times this season in his fourth year of being a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver. Two of those wins have been on road courses. He won at Road America and again at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. His third win came on the 1.5-mile Texas tri-oval. He came in 2nd place at this race last season behind Kyle Larson. He has eight road course finishes of 10th or better.
AJ Allmendinger +1200
AJ Allmendinger has become a driver known for his road course abilities. He has three wins on the Roval in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and 15 road course finishes of 10th or better in the Cup Series including two Cup road wins. He’s running full-time in the Xfinity Series but has raced in the Cup Series 13 times. He finished 2nd earlier this season at Watkins Glen.
Others to Consider: Kyle Larson (+800) won three road course races in the Cup Series last season. He’s not been that strong this season on this type of track but should always be considered a threat. Christopher Bell (+1400) as he always seems to be around when road course races finish. He won on the Daytona road course in 2021.

This is a historic week for all of the wrong reasons for the NASCAR Cup Series. This is the first time in the modern era that three full-time drivers have been sidelined in the playoffs due to injuries. Kurt Busch and Alex Bowman are both out due to concussions and Cody Ware is not racing this weekend due to injuries to his feet following a wreck.
