This year the Barbosal Championship is a combined field of both PGA and European players from the DP World Tour. The event is an alternative tournament to the Scottish Open but there are still FedEx points, OWGR rankings, and a lock into the Open Championship at stake. Last year Séamus Power won in a playoff against J. T. Poston.

It was one of the more exciting playoff endings on Tour last season. Power and Poston played the No. 18 hole four times and No. 9 two times. It ended when Poston hit his final drive into the water. Power then went on for the win.

The favorites this week are Kevin Streelman and Christopher Gotterup who both come in at +2000. Streelman had a great finish at the Texas Open where he carded a T3 on Sunday. Gotterup is a newcomer straight out of the college ranks who has already made a splash with a T4 finish at the John Deere last week.

This is a fantastic week for value picks to jump up and grab a win as the field strength falls off due to the split fields between the Scottish Open and Barbasol.

The Champions Course at Keene Trace Golf Club features an Author Hills layout. It plays 7,328 yards, par 72, and is one of the top-ranked courses in Kentucky. The fairways take the rolling hills into play with trees narrowing shots off some of the tees. Other holes play on flat land with roughs, bunkers, and water coming into play. Precision will be needed in the early rounds to make it to the weekend.

One of the most challenging aspects of Keene Trace is the fact that it has 76 well-placed bunkers that come into play all over the course. There are also plenty of water hazards to take into consideration. Several holes have water along the entire side of the fairway. A small lake is encircled by a few holes including finishing holes No. 17 and 18.

2022 Barbasol Championship Predictions

Kevin Streelman +2000

Kevin Streelman is a seasoned PGA Tour veteran with more than enough experience to pick up his 3 rd Tour win. Streelman’s best finish this season was a T7 at the Valspar Championship. His attention to his short game will be a plus this week while going up against a field packed with young and hungry players. His game will be to let the kids hit the long ball while he concentrates on carving up the green with short irons and his putter.

Adam Svensson +2500

Adam Svensson was T7 at the Sony Open, T9 at the Honda Classic, and finished T21 at the Canadian Open. He’s had a solid game as of late but does have several missed cuts this season. That being said, he’s finished in the top 25 in his last three outings. Last week at the John Deere he opened with rounds of 67, 67, and 68, before ending with a 71 on Sunday.

Ryan Armour +4000

Ryan Armour has been running hot and cold this season. He’s missed the cut three of his last six outings but he’s been finishing regularly in the top 25 when he makes it to the weekend. Amour could play the same style of game that I see Streelman playing. He finished T15 at the Corales Puntacana Championship earlier this spring.

Austin Cook +6600

Austin Cook was one of the golfers that just could not get close to J.T. Polston last week at the John Deere Classic. Cook finished T16 going 12-under for the week. He seems to have gotten past a stretch of missed cuts earlier this season with a T13 at the Canadian Open and his solid T16 card at the John Deere.

Others: This field is packed with possibilities! Michael Kim (+6600) has had some fantastic finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour. He finished T16 at the Puerto Rico Open. Brandt Snedeker is also in the field this week coming in at +10000.
