The Big 12 Conference was once the powerhouse league when it came to college football, but it’s hard to make that argument anymore. The 2022 title race should be tremendous to follow, but this is also a league without a truly dominant team.
The Baylor Bears are the reigning champions of the Big 12, and some other teams are looking to bounce back this season. There are two pretty clear betting favorites to win the conference, but you could argue that about six teams could be the favorites.
The Big 12 is usually a conference that beats each other up throughout the season, and that keeps the league from reaching the College Football Playoff at times. There might not even be a team worthy of playing in that event from this league in 2022.
No Surprises at the Top
The Oklahoma Sooners are currently the clear betting favorites to win the Big 12 Conference as they have odds set at +175. Brent Venables is now the man in charge at Oklahoma, and he will actually bring a defensive mindset to this program.
Oklahoma has had one of the most explosive offenses in the country for years, but there are some holes on that side of the ball in 2022. Even if the Sooners aren’t as explosive in 2022, you can expect them to be near the top of the league.
Texas is actually next on the list in terms of betting odds, as they are set at +210. The Longhorns finished just 5-7 a season ago, but there is optimism under second-year coach Steve Sarkisian.
Quinn Ewers will be under center for Texas, and he should be one of the best players in the league. Bijan Robinson is back at running back, and the Longhorns are a solid defense away from being nearly unbeatable.
Big 12 Has Some Depth
The Baylor Bears have to be considered as a team that can win the Big 12 this season, especially since they return so many key players from a season ago. Baylor took advantage of a good situation in 2021, but the odds for them this season are at +700.
Oklahoma State (+500) is another sleeper team in the Big 12 Conference, and this program always gives the Sooners some trouble. Quarterback Spencer Sanders could be in the running for the Heisman Trophy this season, and the Cowboys will put up some points.
Texas Take the Title
Even though this is a conference that should be wide open this season, Texas will be the team that rises to the top. Sarkisian will have much more success with his team in the second year, and this offense should be nearly unstoppable.
The Longhorns are not going to roll through the season with an unbeaten record, but Texas will win the most important games to take the title. Bet the Texas Longhorns +210 to win the Big 12 Conference.
