The 2022-23 PGA Tour season is officially starting with the upcoming Fortinet Championship. This is the final time the TOUR will use the wrap-around schedule with a return to a more normal calendar year next season. Regardless, get ready for some fantastic golf in scenic Napa, California with a stronger-than-normal field.

The new season once again kicks off at the Silverado Country Club’s PGA Tour-worthy North Course. As in years past, the opening round of the new PGA season means a host of players are looking to grab valuable FedEx points early before the President’s Cup, fall schedule, and the Christmas/New Year’s break.

Where to Bet on the PGA

There is a three-way tie at the top of the odds list when it comes to winning the Fortinet Championship outright. Corey Conners, Hideki Matsuyama, and Max Homa all come in as co-favorites at +1400 before the opening rounds.

There are 500 FedEx points on the line this week at an event that has had only one playoff finish in the last five times it was held at this course. The Silverado North Course is a mature venue – think long off the tee and narrow! The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and tweaked by Johnny Miller about a decade ago.

Max Homa +1400

Max Homa comes in as one of the favorites for good reason. The former UC-Berkeley player has moved to the 20th spot on the OWGR list after a successful past season which started with winning this tournament. Homa made good use of his short irons following well-placed tee- shots last year to lock this tournament down. He is also been named as one of the players on the President’s Cup team. We will have to see if that added stress affects his game this week.

Sahith Theegala is no longer a hidden secret in the form of an unknown rookie. Theegala now has a full season as a PGA TOUR pro under his belt with impressive numbers that pad his resume. The Orange California native and Pepperdine Alum is sporting a 70-scoring average on a season where he made the cut in 26 of 32 events he entered. He finished 28th at the TOUR Championship.

Brendan Steele +4500

Brendan Steele has won this tournament twice! He went back-to-back in 2016 and 2017 when the tournament was known as the Safeway Open. One of those wins was a two-stroke victory over Tony Finau. Steele comes in as one of the best players from tee-to-green on the PGA and a precision driver which is well suited for this course. He was T2 at the ZOZO Championship and T9 at the PGA Championship.

Others to Consider: Plenty of people are watching to see how Rickie Fowler (+12500) kicks off his season. Fowler is hoping to make huge strides in his game and by all accounts, he will be taking full advantage of the Fall schedule. Stewart Cink (+9000) won this event in 2019 when he bested Harry Higgs by two strokes for the win. Cink seems to shine during the fall events on the schedule.
