2022 MLB All-Star Game Odds And Picks

The best players in baseball will come together at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday to battle in the 92nd All-Star Game. The first pitch between the American and National League will take place at 7:30 pm ET.

Coming into play, the American League has won the contest 46 times in its history, while the National League has won 43 times. The two sides have tied twice.

While the all-time record is relatively close, it has been the American League who has dominated in the 21st century. Not only have they won the last eight games straight, but they are 17-3 since 2000.

On Tuesday, the National League will look to reverse that trend, and they are the favorites to do so. They are -116 to win while the American League’s moneyline sits at -104. The over/under for total runs sits at eight.

Starting Pitching Match-ups

While the All-Star game usually doesn’t see any one pitcher go for more than a couple of innings, this year features an interesting starting matchup of southpaws.

For the American League, they will send 25-year-old Shane McClanahan to the mound Tuesday. In 18 starts this season, he is 10-3 with a 1.71 ERA and 0.795 WHIP. He is currently the favorite to win the A.L. Cy Young at +210.

On the flip side, you have future Hall-of-Famer Clayton Kershaw starting for the National League. In 12 starts, the 34-year-old is 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA and 0.91 WHIP.

Managers

hqdefault

The managers for the ALL-Star game always consist of the managers from the previous year’s World Series. In this case, that means the Atlanta Braves’ Brian Snitker will be managing the National League while the Houston Astros’ Dusty Baker will manage the American League.

Sluggers

The American League features a gauntlet of sluggers that will be tough for the National League’s pitchers to work around. Aaron Judge (33 HR), Giancarlo Stanton (24 HR), Shohei Ohtani 19 HR), Rafael Devers (22 HR), and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (20 HR) provide a ton of power for the American League’s lineup.

Their bench is also loaded with hitters like Home Run Derby finalist Julio Rodriguez, J.D. Martinez, Ty France, Jose Ramirez, Corey Seager, Xander Bogaerts, George Springer, Kyle Tucker, and others.

For the National League, their lineup provides more balance with good contact and power hitters like Paul Goldschmidt (.330 avg, 20 HR), Trea Turner (.306 avg, 14 HR), Mookie Betts (.265 avg, 20 HR), Manny Machado (.303 avg, 15 HR) and Ronald Acuna Jr (.265 avg, 8 HR).

On the bench, the National League has big names like Home Run Derby champion Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Freddie Freeman, Austin Riley, Kyle Schwarber, Nolan Arenado, and others.

2022 MLB All-Star Game Predictions

This one is a tough one to call, but it is hard to bet against trends, and in this one, that means taking the American League. While every year seems like the year the National League should break through their slump; it is the American League that is ultimately victorious.

Throw on top of that the fact the American League comes in as an underdog, and there is just too much value to pass up. Take the American League at -104 on the moneyline.

In terms of the over/under, the under seems like the safe bet. In five of the last seven All-Star games, the total has gone under eight runs. While the sluggers might be out in full force, you also have the best pitchers in the game toeing the rubber on both sides.

In terms of the over/under, take the under eight runs (-120).
