2022 MLB Home Run Derby Betting Odds and Picks

The 2022 Home Run Derby is set to take place Monday, July 18, inside Dodger Stadium. The league’s most powerful sluggers go toe-to-toe in the box.

Where to Bet on the Home Run Derby

Pete Alonso of the New York Mets won each of the most recent Derbys. He will look to complete the three-year sweep. He’s challenging the likes of Kyle Schwarber, Juan Soto, and several others, including one legend of the game.

Here’s how the field shakes out for the 2022 MLB Home Run Derby.

Pete Alonso (+200)

Alonso heads into baseball’s main attraction with the fifth-most homers and most RBIs in the entire league. He is not the most disciplined hitter in the league. He has a picture-perfect swing that translates perfectly into contests such as this one.

Alonso tends to put on a show during batting practice. The derby is just a more extravagant version of that. His experience in the competition will do him well against a field that is lesser in profile than years past.

MLB Betting Lines

Kyle Schwarber (+330)

Schwarber might not have the name of other long-ball hitters such as Shohei Ohtani or Vladimir Guerrero Jr. But he’s a proven home-run hitter and currently second in the league with 29, a career-best pace.

Schwarber is also streaky and can get ridiculously hot when he is on his game. A strong first round is all that stands between the Philadelphia Phillies’ big bat and a trip to the final round.

Juan Soto (+600)

Soto has had to adapt his game to match the needs of his struggling Washington Nationals by prioritizing home-run hits over simply getting on base. This comes after Soto had years batting .351 and .313 in his last two seasons. Although he is only at .250 this year, he has smacked 20 home runs, a team-high for Washington.

He is not an old-school cleanup hitter. He has a brilliant ability to make strong contact with the ball. He’s so consistent that he is practically guaranteed to advance out of the first round.

MLB Predictions

Ronald Acuna Jr. (+650)

Acuna hit a staggering 41 home runs in his last full season. That was his second in the MLB at just 21 years old. The Atlanta Braves’ centerpiece is coming off of a bad knee injury. He needed time to reintegrate into the lineup. He has begun to find his footing and is looking dangerous again.

His yearly total of eight home runs is by far the lowest. He will also have the energy to go deep in the competition because of the time off.

Julio Rodriguez (+850)

Rookie 21-year-old Rodriguez was a nice inclusion in the event. His home run total of 16 is only tied for the 32nd-most in the league. He’s a talented player with a large frame he’s still growing into and figures to reappear in the future.

MLB Betting Guide

Corey Seager (+900)

Seager has already equaled the second-best year of his career with 50% of the season still to go. Since moving to the Texas Rangers, he has been asked to carry more of the slugging load. He has delivered, showing that he can become a true long-ball threat.

Jose Ramirez (+1600)

Ramirez is a player with a compact build but explosive bat. He leads the Cleveland Guardians in home runs and RBIs in their surprise ascension. Ramirez could be prone to stamina concerns because of the weight he carries on a 5-foot-9 frame. But he has great power to compensate.

MLB Home Run Props Betting Guide

Albert Pujols (+2200)

Pujols, one of the game’s most legendary hitters, is back in his natural environment. Having already competed in four Derbys during his illustrious career. He is in the twilight of his career, and his nomination was mostly out of sentiment. But he’s hit six home runs in limited appearances and could turn heads in the early rounds.
