There are a number of great power hitters in the majors and they will compete this season for the MLB home run crown. Who will win the title of MLB home run king?

Here are the 2022 MLB regular season home run leader picks.

Vlad the Impaler

While he won’t be impaling baseballs, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be hitting them out of ballparks all around the majors this season. A year after hitting 48 dingers, Guerrero is the odds-on favorite at +700 to do it again in 2022. The Blue Jays star tied with Royals C Salvador Perez for the MLB lead last season.

If not for Shohei Ohtani, Guerrero would have likely been the AL MVP. He was first in the league in OBP (.401). OPS (1.002), runs scored (123), and WAR (6.6). He has incredible bat speed and one of the big factors is that he is incredibly durable.

In two big league seasons, Guerrero has played 221 of a possible 222 games. With his bat speed and power, there is no doubt why he is the front runner and the only MLB player given odds better than +1000 in this category.

Top Contenders to Lead MLB in Home Runs in 2022

At the top of the board, the biggest competition Guerrero will face comes from the Mets Pete Alonso (+1100) and the Yankees Aaron Judge (+1200). Alonso, who won the NL Rookie of the Year in 2019 with a rookie record of 53 homers, hit 37 in 152 games last year.

Judge, who held the previous rookie home run record at 52, hit 39 homers last year in 148 games. Staying healthy will be a key factor for Judge who has missed significant time in three of his five MLB seasons.

Home Run Watch List

Watch out for Joey Gallo, who is now a teammate of Judge in New York. After his trade from Texas last season, Gallo finished with 38 homers in 153 games. It was his second consecutive season with 38 and the most since hitting 41 and 40 in 2017 and 2018 in Texas.

Gallo is listed at +1400 as is former three-time AL MVP Mike Trout. Trout missed most of last season with an injury, but he is capable of a 40-plus homer season. He’s had two of those already.

Perez, who tied Guerrero last season for the MLB lead, is listed at +1300. He really came into his own last season. In the shortened 2020 season, Perez hit 11 homers in 37 games, which equates to 48 over 162 games.

The Sleeper

The most intriguing prospect here is Philadelphia’s Kyle Schwarber. Signed by the Phillies in the offseason, Schwarber played in 113 games last season for both Washington and Boston. He is streaky as evidenced by his 16 homers in 27 games at one point last year.

If he had played a whole season, he would have been on pace to hit 46 homers last year. Now, he’ll play in Philadelphia where the home stadium has one of the shallower left-field fences.

2022 MLB Home Run Leader Prediction

There are some great home run hitters in the majors. Schwarber is a really interesting prospect and you can’t discount the power of guys like Stanton, Judge, Gallo, and Perez.

But, there might not be a better hitter in all of baseball than Guerrero. He can hit for average but also hit for power. Barring injury, he has the ability to hit 50, maybe even 60 homers this season.

PICK: GUERRERO +700
