After winning last year’s MLS Cup in dramatic fashion, New York City FC is among the favorites to capture the coveted title in 2022.
The Seattle Sounders, which have played for the MLS Cup in two of the past three seasons, are also among those favorites.
The 2022 MLS season kicks off on Saturday, February 26. It’s the earliest start ever for an MLS season. The 2022 schedule was altered to fit the international soccer calendar which contains this year’s World Cup. That begins Nov. 21 in Qatar.
Here is a look at the 2022 MLS Cup odds and predictions.
LAFC Favored to Win
At the top of the board is Los Angeles FC. This will be just the fifth year for LAFC in the MLS. Last season was the first in which the club didn’t make the playoffs.
Still, they were able to retain Carlos Vuela and for that reason they are the favorite to win this year’s MLS Cup. LAFC is given +650 odds to win it all.
Top Contenders to Win 2022 MLS Cup
As mentioned, last year’s MLS Cup champ New York FC is a top contender. NYCFC is listed at +700 and for good reason. The 2021 MVP and Golden Boot winner Valentin Castellanos returns.
The problem is that Castellanos might not be around for long. He could be headed back to Argentina to play for River Plate at some point this season.
Seattle is one of the top clubs in MLS. They have been to the playoffs 13 consecutive seasons and won the MLS Cup in 2016 and 2019. They lost to Columbus in the final in 2020. The Sounders have a star- studded roster and are given +750 odds to win the Cup this season.
New England entered last year’s playoffs as the highest seed. They were upset by eventual champion New York FC in the conference semifinal. On the heels of a record-breaking season – one in which they won the Supporter’s Shield – the Revolution are listed at +900 to win the MLS Cup this season.

The Sleeper
Sometimes, one player can make a difference. Oscar Pareja is that player for Orlando City FC. Orlando isn’t likely to finish in the top two or three, but when the playoffs roll around Pareja and the rest of the roster are the type of club that can sneak up and surprise opponents.
At +4000, the Lions are a big longshot.
2022 MLS Cup Futures Pick
In any professional sport, it typically comes down to the roster. One MLS team’s roster stands out – Seattle. Joao Paulo, Jordan Morris, Nicolas Lodeiro, Albert Rusnak, and Raul Ruidiaz. The Sounders are talented, experienced, and they have been there before.
