2022 RSM Classic Odds and Picks

The RSM Classic has only been on the PGA schedule since 2010 and it has become one of the treasured events of the fall. It’s a full-field tournament with a purse that now has passed the 8 million dollar mark and is essentially the close of the fall PGA Schedule. It now regularly attracts some of the bigger names on Tour and is played on two courses.

One of those names is Tony Finau who comes in as the lone favorite to win outright at +900. A resurging Jason Day comes in as one of the favorites at +2500. But wait – did I mention two courses? Yep, due to the full field and shrinking daylight hours this time of year, the tournament makes use of both courses at the Sea Island Golf Club. The Saint Simons Island venue uses both the Seaside Course and the Plantation Course.

Two years ago Robert Streb became the first two-time winner of the Classic backing up his 2014 win which both came via a playoff. That’s not strange for the RSM Classic as three of the last four Classics have ended in a playoff. Last year’s winner, Talor Gooch, broke that trend by winning by four strokes over Mackenzie Hughes.

Here are the favorites to win the 2022 RSM Classic outright:

Tony Finau +900

Seamus Power +2200

Brian Harman +2200

Jason Day +2500

Taylor Montgomery +2800

Tom Hoge +2800

Due to the shortened hours of daylight, the event uses both courses – the slightly shorter Seaside Course and the Plantation Course. The first two rounds will see every player on both courses with the weekend taking place on the Seaside course only.

Both courses are gently rolling with moderate elevation changes but there are differences that will force players to adjust to the different layouts. Despite that, look for players with hot putters and scrambling skills to be a factor on Sunday.

2022 RSM Classic Predictions

Tony Finau +900

Tony Finau is a favorite for a simple reason – he’s one of the few players on the PGA TOUR that oddsmakers see as having a chance to go back-to-back. He’s also won three times in his last seven starts. Finau won last week at the Houston Open by ending his Sunday at 16-under with a strong putter and fantastic work around the greens. That’s the formula that wins at Sea Island.

Tom Hoge +2800

Tom Hoge was in the running to win this event last year following a strong weekend which was capped off after a T4 finish. Hoge has started the new season with a string of finishes of T15 or better and capped off last year with a 10th-place run at East Lake. Hoge is now ranked 36th on the OWGR 21 st in FedEx points.

Kevin Kisner +5000

Kevin Kisner has become the leader when it comes to money at Seaside. He won here in 2015 and was P2 in 2020 and he has carded five top-ten finishes at this tournament. Kinser has a huge resume win stemming from the Presidents Cup and he won the Wyndham Championship last season. He may have come out of the gate slow with his T72 at the CJ Cup but he always plays great at Sea Island.

Others: Luke List (+8000) has one of the stronger short games on Tour. His downfall is a strong putter that can go agonizingly cold at the wrong time. Robert Streb (+15000) has won this tournament twice. He knows how to carve up both courses at the Saint Simmon venue but has been a bit inconsistent in his last few outings.
