2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational Odds and Picks

After an exciting finish at the Honda Classic, you may not think that things could get any better. Well, the Arnold Palmer Invitational is next up for the PGA Tour and it now has a purse of 20 million bucks with Scottie Scheffler returning to defend his title! Joining Scheffler are the top two favorites heading into the opening round which are Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy.

If that sounds familiar it’s because these were the same three players that topped the odds list for this event last season. Rahm comes in as the favorite once again but at +600 with McIlroy at +900. And once again, Scottie Scheffler sits next in line at +1000.

Here are the top five favorites to win the 2023 Arnold Palmer Classic outright:

Jon Rahm +600

Rory McIlroy +900

Scottie Scheffler +1000

Max Homa +1800

Collin Morikawa +1800

As listed above, Max Homa and Collin Morikawa both come in at +1800 to round out the top of the favorites list. Last season the two additional top five favorites included Viktor Hovland and Hideki Matsuyama. Hovland comes in at +2800, but he may still be getting his swing back after a back injury that sidelined him some towards the end of last year. Hideki Matsuyama enters the opening round at +6000.

2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational Preview

Where: Bay Hill, Florida

Course: Bay Hill Golf Club

Format: Stroke Play

Par: 72

Length: 7454

When: March 2 –5, 2023

Purse: $20 Million

TV Coverage: Golf Channel/NBC/Peacock/ESPN+

This course is one of the toughest on the PGA schedule and it can even be harder if the infamous Bay Hill winds get going. The event three years ago had the highest scoring average in a non-major in the last four PGA seasons at 2.17 strokes over par. One interesting fact is that this tournament has not ended in a playoff since 1999.

The course has some challenging holes including the No. 6 horseshoe par five with wraps around a lake. It’s always fun watching some players on youtube trying to drive the green over the water. However, Dechambeau is out – so we probably won’t see too much of that this time around.

Bay Hill is an iconic course with a traditional Florida look. It takes full advantage of the gently rolling terrain as rises in the course serve as additional obstacles to bunkers and water hazards. It’s always beautiful on TV.

2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational Predictions

Scottie Scheffler +1000

Scottie Scheffler has played in nine events this season including the Presidents Cup which was a team win. In the other eight events, he has finished T12 or better seven times and has yet to miss a weekend. He won the Phoenix Open several weeks ago and carded the T12 at the Genisis. Scheffler is coming in with a strong game at a course where he racked up one of his wins last season. He’s 1 of 1 in title defenses.

Jason Day +2800

Jason Day is a past Champion here with his win in 2016 and he’s playing great golf as of late. He’s finished in the top ten in four of his last five outings with the outlier being a T18 at the American Express. He finished 5th at the Phoenix Open and was T9 at the Genesis. Day has missed the weekend twice this season but he’s finished T21 or better in nine of eleven tournaments played so far.

Chris Kirk +5000

Chris Kirk pulled out the win after a one-hole playoff last week at the Honda Classic. That was his first PGA Tour win in almost 7 years which included some tough personal issues. But he looked amazing last week and had a great short game going for most of the week. That type of play will be rewarded here.

Others I Like: I can’t stop thinking about two players. Will Zalatoris (+2000) has a nice style of play that should fit at Bay Hill if he’s healthy. I think he’s very close to being 100 percent. I’m also keeping an eye on rookie Eric Cole (+20000). He almost won last week against Kirk and it will be interesting to see how he shows after such an emotional finish.
