Novak Djokovic is the bookmakers’ favorite to win the men’s singles event, with Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev also expected to challenge for the trophy. Below, I analyze the top contenders before sharing my 2023 ATP Australian Open predictions.

Top Contenders to Win the 2023 Men’s Australian Open Title

Novak Djokovic (+100)

After missing last year’s tournament due to his Covid-19 vaccine status, Djokovic will be more determined than ever to enhance his record tally of Australian Open titles.

The 35-year-old has won nine of the previous 15 Aussie Open titles and even managed to secure three consecutive triumphs between 2019 and 2021. With a total of 21 Grand Slams to his name, Djokovic looks destined to dominate in Melbourne once again.

Carlos Alcaraz (+400)

Despite having only turned 19 back in May, Alcaraz heads into 2023 at the summit of the men’s singles rankings. The Spanish sensation rose to the top of the rankings after winning the 2022 US Open against Casper Ruud.

Alcaraz was knocked out in the second round of the 2021 Australian Open before reaching the third round in 2022. However, the reigning US Open champion will fancy his chances of going all the way in 2023.

Daniil Medvedev (+600)

Medvedev will be desperate to get his hands on the Aussie Open trophy after losing the previous two finals in Melbourne. After falling to Djokovic in the 2021 showpiece, the Russian was beaten by Rafael Nadal last time around.

The 26-year-old is no stranger major finals, having reached four throughout his career. Following his triumph at the 2021 US Open, Medvedev will be eager to go one better Down Under.

Best Sleeper Bet for the 2023 Men’s Australian Open

Rafael Nadal (+1000)

It feels strange referring to Nadal as a sleeper, but he is not among the bookies’ frontrunners to win the 2023 Australian Open. Despite triumphing in Melbourne 12 months ago, the iconic 36-year-old is not favored to defend his crown.

Still, it is important to remember that Nadal has won a record 22 Grand Slam men’s singles titles. He may not be at the peak of his powers nowadays, but he is still more than capable of going all the way in Australia.

2023 Men’s Australian Open Pick

Best Bet: Novak Djokovic (+100)

Djokovic’s record at Melbourne Park speaks for itself. Not only has he won three of the last four Australian Open titles, but he has also won nine of the previous 15.

The legendary Serb was denied the chance to clinch four successive Aussie Open titles in 2022, so I’m backing him to bounce back in 2023. Given his recent domination of the tournament, odds of +100 look seriously attractive.
