2023 Fountain of Youth Stakes Odds and Picks

At Gulfstream Park this Saturday, there are eight graded stakes in the race card. The $400,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes is the featured event with three-year-old thoroughbreds, along with the $200,000 Davona Dale Stakes for three-year-old fillies.

Forte will be making his three-year-old debut at Gulfstream in this race.

Sired by Violence, he has ridden 1 1/16 miles on dirt in both these major graded events at Keeneland. Forte is the early favorite for the 2023 Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May having raced for Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable. Forte is starting at the No. 4 gate in the Fountain of Youth with jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.

Rocket Can won the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream on Feb. 4 as a three-year-old. He covered 1 1/16 miles on dirt in 1:44.97 over Shadow Dragon and West Coast Cowboy in second and third. Also bred in Kentucky, the colt placed in the money at Churchill Down his last two races as a juvenile.

As a son of Into Mischief, Rocket Can has his last three races covering 1 1//16 miles. He has the pedigree to make things interesting in the Fountain of Youth. Trained by William Mott, Rocket Can is posted at the No. 8 gate with Junior Alvarado as jockey.

What Is a Superfecta?

Show: Blazing Sevens

This is another Kentucky-bred colt that is making his three-year-old debut in the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream. Trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Joel Rosario out of the No. 6 gate, he raced for Rodeo Creek Racings, LLC. As a two-year-old, Blazing Sevens won the one mile Champagne Stakes at Aqueduct before finish fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Keeneland over 1 1/16 miles on dirt.

Blazing Sevens is a son of Good Magic and has been bred to compete in major graded events, such as the Fountain of Youth. He has raced on dirt since his victory at Saratoga in a six-furlong Maiden Special Weight race on July 24.
