The NASCAR Cup Series moves from a wild race at Fontana to Vegas! It’s already time for the third race of the young season which is the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LMS). Alex Bowman is the defending champ of the Pennzoil 400. However, Joey Logano won the last race at LMS in the fall.
Do oddsmakers see Bowman defending his Penzoil title? Nope – Bowman comes in as a mid-pack driver at +2000. As for Logano, the other Vegas winner from last season, he’s among the four drivers that are favorites to win the Penzoil 400 outright. Logano comes in at +800 with Kyle Busch being the favorite at +600.
Las Vegas has seen a variety of drivers and manufacturers win at the track since the first Cup Series race was run there in 1998. And that’s been the case over the last few trips to LMS. Ford drivers have won five of the last ten races at the track. But Chevrolet Blue Oval drivers have won three of the last five races at Vegas including Bowman’s 2022 Penzoil 400 checkered.
This week only two manufacturers are at the top of the favorites list. Toyota drivers are shut out of the top four. Here are the favorites to win the Pennzoil 400 Presented by Jiffy Lube at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Kyle Busch +600
Kyle Larson +650
Ross Chastain +750
Joey Logano +800
Joey Logano drives a Ford and the other three top favorites are with Chevrolet. Toyota drivers have won Cup races at Vegas twice in the last ten visits to the track with both Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. Kyle Busch won here behind the wheel of a Toyota in the Cup Series but that checkered flag came in 2009. Busch is now driving a Chevrolet.

2023 Pennzoil 400 Predictions
Kyle Larson +650
Kyle Larson won at Las Vegas in 2021 and he has a great record there overall except for his last trip to the track. Last fall he was involved in a crash that took him out of the race after 94 laps. Other than that one Vegas DNF – he’s logged the 2021 win and nine top-ten finishes in 13 Cup Series races at the venue. Larson has had a rough start to the season with a crash at Daytona and a 29-place run last week at Auto Club Speedway. Vegas may be the track where he starts rolling in 2023.
Joey Logano +800
Joey Logano finished 10th last week in California and placed 2nd at the season-opening Daytona 500. Logano is also one of the top-rated drivers at LMS according to his stats including his win here last season with the fall race at Vegas. Logano has won three times at Vegas in his last ten starts at the track with twelve runs inside the top ten in his 19 Cup Series starts here. He’s finished 14th or better in 17 of those 19 Vegas starts.
Martin Truex Jr. +1100
Martin Truex Jr. is one of the best drivers when it comes to Las Vegas Motor Speedway according to NASCAR Fantasy stats! In his last ten trips to the track, he’s finished nine times inside the top ten with a win in 2019. He finished 4th at LMS in the fall 2021 race and posted 8th and 7th place finishes in 2022 respectively. He’s one of the stronger Toyota drivers at Vegas – especially since Kyle Busch moved from Toyota to Chevrolet following last season.
Others to Consider: Let’s not count out the defending race winner too quickly. Alex Bowman (+2000) won this race last spring after some nice strategy and a strong run at the end that included 15 laps as the leader where he distanced himself from the pack. Brad Keselowski (+4500) always runs well at LMS and he has two wins there to back that up. Keselowski is looking better this season compared to 2022 when he switched teams.
