2023 Players Championship Odds and Picks

It’s time for THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass and the Players Stadium Course at Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The event comes after a string of exciting finishes on the PGA Tour, it has a $25 million dollar purse and an all-star field. One thing it won’t have is a defending champion, as Cameron Smith has moved to the exhibition-style LivGolf series.

PGA Betting Sites

This will be one of the toughest fields of the season following a packed field last week. Like last week, Jon Rahm comes in as one of the favorites along with Rory McIlroy. Both enter the opening round at +400 with Scottie Scheffler at +440 giving us essentially three favorites outright.

There’s not much daylight between players as you go through the rest of the odds list. Here are the favorites to win THE PLAYERS Championship outright:

Jon Rahm +400

Rory McIlroy +400

Scottie Scheffler +440

Justin Thomas +600

Patrick Cantlay +600

Max Homa +600

The odds list is pretty tight behind Rahm as it includes two players that have won THE PLAYERS recently. That’s Justin Thomas who won in 2021 and McIlroy who took the title in 2019. This event was skipped in 2020 due to COVID.

There are also other former PLAYERS champs down the odds list such as Jason Day at +800, Si Woo Im at +900, and Rickie Fowler who comes in at +1100. Like I said this week the field is bunched together.

2023 Players Championship Preview

Where: Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida

Course: TPC Sawgrass/ Players Stadium Course

Format: Stroke Play

Par: 72

Length: 7189

When: March 9 –12, 2022

Purse: $25 Million

TV Coverage: NBC, Golf, Peacock, ESPN+, SiriusXM

TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course is one of Florida’s premier courses and its Island green is well known to all PGA fans. TPC Sawgrass will not be as difficult as Bay Hill was last week when it comes to wind and the rough, but there will be some gusts blowing and a chance for wet weather, especially on Friday. The weekend should be in the 70s and great for play. Sawgrass features narrow fairways, water hazards including marshes, and bunkers placed around every landing area. There’s not a lot of mercy given to wayward approach shots.

2023 Players Championship Predictions

Scottie Scheffler +440

Scottie Scheffler looked to be in good form for much of the Arnold Palmer Invitational but missed several opportunities to grab the win. He was not alone as putting became an issue with several players during the final few holes. Scheffler is now 4th in FedEx points and No. 2 on the OWGR. He’s not missed the weekend any this season and he’s riding a streak of T12 or better, six finishes inside the top ten, and his win a few weeks ago at the Phoenix Open.

Tony Finau +660

Tony Finau has not had the best luck at TPC Sawgrass and this event as he’s 2 for 6 overall with a best finish of T22. However, he’s been on a roll for several months and finished off last season with a string of wins and has already won this season. Finau has had a stronger short game and putter since his last visit here and is now 13th on the OWGR and 8th in FedEx Cup points. He’s also first on Tour ins scrambling from the fringe and 2nd on 125-150 approaches which are important at TPC Sawgrass.

Shane Lowry +1000

Shane Lowry didn’t look to be at his best last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he carded a 67th finish with three rounds in the 70s and an 80 on Friday. All of that aside, Lowry was T5 at the Honda Classic and T14 at the Genesis Invitational. Lowry has been known for solid play and as a good player when it comes to scrambling. If he can get his putter going this week he should be around on Sunday.

Others I Like: Rory McIlroy (+400) has seemingly been the favorite for weeks but has seemed a bit off except for a DP World Tour win. He seems to be struggling with his driver and long irons at times with a lot of shots off the fairway. And, he’s finished 10th or worse in four of his last five outings. Rickie Fowler (+1100) won this tournament in 2015 and seems to be getting his game back on track. He’s moved to 21 st in FedEx points and is now No. 71 st on the OWGR. Much better than No 167 back in August.
