One of the biggest betting events of the year for horse racing fans is right around the corner. This year’s Breeders’ Cup will be held at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Southern California.
The two days of racing on Friday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 6 feature 14 different events with a total prize purse of $31 million. The ‘best of the best’ in Thoroughbred racing will compete on both the turf and the dirt for one of the most prestigious titles in the sport.
Two of the biggest races on Saturday’s race card leading up to the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic are the Dirt Mile and the Turf. While the final field for each major graded stakes event is still coming together, most of the top online sportsbooks have set fix-odds to win for the probable contenders.

2021 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile Predictions
When: Saturday, November 6th 2021
The $1 Million Big Ass Fans Dirt Mile is one of the early races on Saturday’s card. Open to Thoroughbreds three and older, a deep and talented field should keep things interesting from start to finish.
Turning to the fixed odds to win this race, Life is Good tops the list as a +110 favorite. Trained by Todd Pletcher, this three-year old was once the favorite to win this year’s Kentucky Derby until an ankle injury kept him out of that race. He started the year with a pair of victories in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes and the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita.

The son of Into Mischief is coming off a second-place finish at Saratoga in this year’s Grade 1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes. He finished a close second behind Jackie’s Warrior. If Pletcher can return him to top form, Life is Good offers some great value as the favorite.
A few other probable contenders to watch in this race would be Silver State at +450 odds and Ginobli as a +700 third-favorite. If you are looking for solid value at even longer odds, Drain the Clock (+1400) would fit the bill if he runs.
2021 Breeders’ Cup Turf Predictions
When: Saturday, November 6th 2021
After the BC Classic, the Longines Turf has the next biggest prize purse at $4 million. Covering 1½ miles in total distance, this race is open to Thoroughbreds three and older.
Ireland-bred Tarnawa is expected to defend his title after winning last year’s BC Turf at Keeneland. The five-year old is trained by Dermot Weld and over the course of his very successful career he has earned more than $4.5 million.
Racing in Ireland and France this year, he has placed first or second in his last three events. He comes into this race as a +150 favorite on the fixed-odds board.
Second on the list at +400 odds is Domestic Spending. Trained by Chad Brown, this English- bred three-year old colt offers some excellent value with six victories in eight career races. He finished second and third in the other two events.
Prior to a recent second-place run at Arlington in mid-August, the sire of Kingman won a pair of Grade 1 stakes races at Belmont Park and Churchill Downs. If he runs in the Turf, look for jockey Flavien Prat to get the ride.
The next two probables on the list at +600 odds are Sealiway and Yibir. The top value play on the board at longer odds would be Channel Maker at +2500 after finishing third in last year’s BC Turf.
