Thanks to the decision to host the World Cup in Qatar, where temperatures make it way too hot to play in the summertime, the most popular soccer tournament is shifting to the winter this year.
While the schedule has thrown the entire sport for a loop, many soccer fans are eagerly awaiting the event following a three-year absence.
Here’s a look at the best bets to reach the World Cup quarterfinals.
England (-225)
The Three Lions are still disappointed in not being able to win Euro 2020 and finishing runner-up to Italy. However, England got a strong draw for the 2022 World Cup and should be primed for another strong run after finishing in fourth place in 2018. Led by Tottenham standout Harry Kane, England has a ton of punch on offense.
The path to the quarterfinals shouldn’t be too perilous. The Three Lions should be favored to win Group B, which also features the United States, Iran and Wales.
Once England reaches the knockout round, the Three Lions would be paired with either Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal or the Netherlands. England should be able to beat any of those teams to march on to the quarterfinals.
2022 World Cup Groups
Brazil (-225)

The Brazilians have made it to at least the quarterfinals in the previous seven World Cups. Brazil will have to make it out of Group G, which also features Cameroon, Serbia, and Switzerland. The potential round of 16 opponents also matches up well for Brazil.
The Brazilians would have to get past Ghana, Portugal, South Korea or Uruguay to advance.
Germany (-120)
The German path to the World Cup quarterfinals is full of potential landmines. The Germans have been placed in Group E, which is a competitive spot that also features Spain, Japan, and Costa Rica. Germany is looking to bounce back after disappointing in 2018 by not advancing out of the Group stage.
Long-time veteran striker Thomas Muller will lead a dangerous attack hoping that Germany can win its first championship since it defeated Argentina in the 2014 cup final. Depending on how Germany does in the group stage, their first opponent in the round of 16 shouldn’t pose too great of a threat.
The Germans would either have to take down Belgium, Canada, Croatia or Morocco. Croatia is the defending World Cup runner-up.
Mexico (+350)
The Mexican national team is famous for getting one round short of the quarterfinals. Every year since 1994, the Mexican team has escaped the group stage, only to be denied a spot in the quarterfinals by various disappointments. For the 2022 draw, El Tri won’t be favored to win its group.
Argentina, Poland, and Saudi Arabia are a group that will provide plenty of challenges for Mexico, which didn’t play well in the qualifiers leading up to the tournament. El Tri’s path to the quarterfinals shouldn’t be too bad.
If Mexico can somehow win the group, the El Tri would be looking at Australia, Denmark or Tunisia in the first round of the knockout stage. Mexico could also play France, which Mexico has beaten at the World Cup before.
