Are you usually manic on Monday? Well, the MLB schedule isn’t frantic, with only five games.
But we have come up with a winning prop for each of the four games on the slate that begin after 6:10 PM ET.
Here we go:
MLB Player Props Picks (August 9th)
Brewers vs. Cubs Betting Report
DAVID BOTE (Chicago Cubs) UNDER 0.5 HITS (+120)
Opponent: MILWAUKEE BREWERS (starter – Freddy Peralta)
Time: 8:05 PM ET
Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta (8-3, 2.21 ERA) has not been generous at all to hitters of late. Over his last 39 innings, he has allowed just 17 hits. And while he has indeed issued 20 walks during that stretch, such a thing is not something we really have to be concerned about, is it?
There are a few of these Cubbie hitters who have had much difficulty with him. That includes Ian Happ (1-for-11, 4 K’s). But the numbers on infielder David Bote kind of intrigue us, since he is 0-for-7 with five strikeouts against Peralta.
We shopped and found something favorable here. The numbers vary, depending on where you go. But this may be the b est you’ll find.
Marlins vs. Padres Betting Report
JESUS AGUILAR (Miami Marlins) OVER 0.5 RBIs (+160)
Opponent: SAN DIEGO PADRES (starter – Joe Musgrove)
Time: 10:10 PM ET
Joe Musgrove has put together a couple of nice outings in a row, where he’s allowed just five hits and four walks over 13 innings. But we can guarantee you that the one guy he dreads seeing in the Miami lineup is Jesus Aguilar.
That’s because Aguilar has gone 4-for-9 lifetime against him with two home runs. He’s also walked twice and has not struck out, despite the fact that he has fanned on almost 19% of his plate appearances this season.
There are a number of ways you can go here. You can wager on Aguilar to get a hot (-200) or more than 1.5 total bases (+135), or even a homer (+375). We chose RBI’s, because that’s his stock-in-trade, as he is fifth in the major leagues in that category.
White Sox vs. Twins Betting Report
MIGUEL SANO (Minnesota Twins) UNDER 0.5 TOTAL BASES (+115)
Opponent: CHICAGO WHITE SOX (Lucas Giolito)
Time: 8:10 PM ET
This one is a tale of a pair of .211 hitters. One of them is Max Kepler, who has hit Lucas Giolito pretty well, going 8-for-29 with three homers and a .999 OPS. And if you want to go “over” with him at 1.5 total bases (at +115), you wouldn’t be out of your mind.
But we’ll opt for ineptitude, and hope that Giolito can gather himself after yielding three homers against Kansas City – this after throwing just one gopher ball in his previous five starts.
Sano has come to the plate 27 times against Giolito. He has never coaxed a base on balls out of the Chicago right-hander (8-8, 3.98) and has just five hits (for a .185 average). He’s also struck out eleven times (that’s 40.7% of the time). Sano is also, as mentioned, just a .211 hitter for the 2021 season.
Top 1st 5 Innings Pick for Today’s MLB Action
Yankees vs. Royals Betting Report
FIRST 5 INNINGS – YANKEES VS. ROYALS UNDER 5 RUNS (-105)
Starting Pitchers: Jameson Taillon (NY) vs. Carlos Hernández (KC)
Time: 8:10 PM ET
We start this by telling you that Carlos Hernandez’s splits have a tendency to look a little crazy. For example, in the first inning he’s held opponents to a .077 batting average, and in the second inning it’s just .214. But that shoots up to .421 in the third inning. In the fifth innings of games he has faced 21 batters and retired them all, ten with strikeouts.
A lot of that is in relief, as it is important to mention that he has made just four starts. But in the last two starts he did not have a third-inning blowup.
Jameson Taillon has had success against the players who are likely to be in the Kansas City lineup, as they have hit .196 against him with three extra base hits in 46 at bats. He has been particularly rough on Michael A. Taylor, who is1-for-10 against him.
Among the 30 major league teams, the Royals are 21st in runs scored over the first five innings, while the Yankees are 22nd.
