Atlanta Hawks at Charlotte Hornets Preview

Hawks vs. Hornets Picks

Best Bet: Hawks +1

Our first bet of the day is an Eastern Conference showdown between Atlanta and Charlotte. The visiting Hawks should be able to handle business against the Hornets. Atlanta is one of just a few teams to be inside the top 13 for both offense and defense.

The Hawks have the superior units on each end of the floor, which is reason enough to consider betting on them to cover. Trae Young leads the 28-25 Hawks with 25.4 points per game and 9.5 assists. What Atlanta does best on offense is score points, as it is a top 10 scoring team.

The team’s success on that end is due in large part to their offensive rebounding. The Hawks are fifth in the NBA in offensive rebounds with nearly 11 per game. The second-chance points those boards provide goes a long way to winning games.

Center Clint Capela is the man to thank for that charge, with five of the 14.1 rebounds he averages coming on the offensive end.

For Charlotte, the offense has weathered the loss of LaMelo Ball well. The offense chucks up a ton of threes, which has helped the Hornets win seven of their last 10 games.

However, Atlanta is the fourth-strongest team defending the perimeter this season. The Hornets are going to be hard-pressed to find points from deep in this one.

Tack on the Hornets’ 25th-ranked defense, and the pick here is the Hawks to cover. On the year, Atlanta is 28-24-1 against the spread. Charlotte is 29-21-1.

Chicago Bulls at Minnesota Timberwolves Preview

Bulls vs. Timberwolves Picks

Best Bet: Timberwolves +4.5

Expect ugliness in this game, with two bottom 10 defenses and two offenses that play fast. That’s a recipe for plenty of points, and anything can happen once the game is moving fast.

As a home dog, I like Minnesota to cover in this one. The Timberwolves just took the Celtics to overtime and likely should have won. Chicago is a step below that Boston team.

The biggest reason to take Minnesota is the presence of Karl-Anthony Towns in the paint. The Timberwolves are a top 10 scoring team down low, and Chicago cannot stop points in the paint. The Bulls are the fourth-most generous defense to points down low.

Towns and his 24.9 points per game seem poised for a big game. The Timberwolves are 23-28-2 ATS, while the Bulls are 29-22.

Miami Heat at Portland Trail Blazers Preview

Heat vs. Trail Blazers Picks

Best Bet: Heat +1.5

The last bet of the day is purely a bet against defense. For all that Portland does well, it severely struggles to stop opposing offenses.

The Trail Blazers come in ranked 29th in defense in the NBA. Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo should be able to do as they please against this defense. Butler (21.6 points per game) and Adebayo (19.1) both have the inside-out game that will put a strain on Portland.

On the other end, the Blazers do have a strong offense. Unfortunately, the Heat’s defense is even stronger, suggesting they can slow them down.

Miami also plays at a significantly slower pace than Portland. If it can dictate the speed of this game, it should have a strong chance of pulling the upset.

Miami is 22-29-1 ATS this season, and Portland is 25-26.
