We’re almost at the All-Star break for this NBA season, with just two more nights of action remaining. Let’s take a look at three totals to consider betting on for Wednesday night’s NBA schedule.
Top Online Bookies for NBA Betting
Charlotte Hornets at Minnesota Timberwolves Picks
Hornets vs. Timberwolves Betting Report
Best Bet: Over 229.5
When considering betting an over, I tend to focus on defensive efficiency for each team, along with possessions per game. Defensive efficiency can show us which teams’ defensive units are struggling – while total points doesn’t always tell the entire story.
Possessions per game is a sign of a higher-paced team, and with more opportunities, you can expect more points scored. That brings us to Wednesday’s Hornets-Timberwolves game.
Both Charlotte and Minnesota find themselves in the bottom 10 of defensive efficiency in the NBA, a great sign for placing a bet on the over. Minnesota is third in the NBA in possessions per game, while Charlotte is 14th.
The Timberwolves are an extremely exploitable defense, being the third-most generous in the league to opposing teams’ field goal percentage.
The Hornets have shown signs of legitimacy thus far in the NBA, led by LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier and Gordon Hayward. This triumvirate of playmakers should be able to make life difficult for the Timberwolves defense, so lock in the over here.
Chicago Bulls at New Orleans Pelicans Picks
Bulls vs. Pelicans Betting Report
Best Bet: Over 237.5
The Pelicans have been the best team in the NBA when it comes to hitting their overs, at 24-9. This 73% coverage rate is tops in the league by a significant margin, thanks to Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.
Both young stars are averaging over 24 points per game and are a huge part of an offense that’s scoring the fifth-most points per game.
Offense is just one piece of the puzzle, and it’s the Pelicans’ weak defense that has helped yield such a high number of overs thus far. The team is allowing the fifth-most points to the opposition in the NBA and comes in second-to-last in defensive efficiency.
Chicago is no slouch, led by All-Star Zach LaVine. LaVine is averaging nearly 30 points per game and leading an offense that comes in the upper half of the league in offensive efficiency, field goal percentage and points per game.
This is an easy call, and despite a high over/under line – bet confidently on the Bulls-Pelicans game on Wednesday night.
Golden State Warriors at Portland Trail Blazers Picks
Warriors vs. Trail Blazers Betting Report
Best Bet: Over 235
On paper, the Warriors should be able to take care of business against the Trail Blazers. They’re a stronger offense and defense, and it’s the Blazers’ defense in particular that sticks out in this one.
Coming into Wednesday, Portland has the third-worst defense in the NBA in efficiency, the sixth-most points allowed, and the second-highest opponent field goal percentage.
The Warriors have the second-most possessions per game and a star by the name of Stephen Curry that you may have heard of once or twice.
Both offenses have been scoring points, with Portland and Golden State 10th and 11th, respectively, in the NBA in scoring per game. Damian Lillard has been red-hot in February and has shown no signs of slowing down.
This could be a three-point barrage, which is a perfect recipe for betting an over
