We’re going to dig through the matchups and provide four best bets: a Moneyline pick, the best run line pick, our best game total pick, and a two-team parlay. Let’s get into it.
Best Moneyline Pick: Mets (-125) vs. Diamondbacks
Both teams have already played one series during the young season, this will mark the final three head-to-head matchups all year. New York took two of three from Arizona last week at Citi Field and now travel across the country to finish up the season series.
The schedule-makers didn’t do the Mets any favors by not giving them a day off on Thursday. But the Diamondbacks also made the same trip after wrapping up a four-game set in D.C. This marks a step up in competition for Arizona who have yet to win a series this year. Bettors likely won’t get an opportunity at this price the rest of the weekend, so take advantage in the opener.
Best Run Line Pick: Orioles vs. Angels -1.5 (+108)
Speaking of schedule-makers, the Orioles are facing their wrath in the early going as well. They faced the likes of the Rays, Brewers, Yankees, and A’s before squaring off with the Angels, Bombers again, Red Sox, and Twins. Talk about a tough way to open a season for a team predicted to finish in the AL East basement again.
Friday continues Baltimore’s 10-game road trip. The reward for a team that’s 1-6 away from Camden Yards is an Angels team that gets MVP candidate Mike Trout back in the lineup. Trout has missed the last three games with a contusion on his hand after getting hit by a pitch last Sunday.
The Halos swept the Orioles in Anaheim last year, scoring 18 runs in the process, with Shohei Ohtani going deep three times.
Best Game Total Pick: Red Sox / Rays Under 8 (-107)
On the surface, this pick has everything to do with the Red Sox. Boston scored just five runs in their previous series with Toronto. Tying their lowest-scoring three-game set over the last five years. And their 3.8 run-per-game average is their lowest since 2014. Plus, eight of those games have gone under the total.
Dig a little deeper and you’ll find that the Under is 7-1 in the Rays’ last eight during game 1 of a series and 5-0 in their last five vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. Michael Wacha and Corey Kluber will keep this low and tight.
Best Parlay: Braves ML (-139) / Dodgers ML (-153)
Marlins vs. Braves Preview / Dodgers vs. Padres Preview
The Braves (6-8) have had a slow start to the season, but the Marlins (5-7) have been no better. With this being an important division game, look for the Braves to win. Trevor Rogers will start for the Marlins and he’s 0-2 with a 12.15 ERA. This is a great opportunity to get the offense on track.
The Dodgers (9-3) lead the NL West, but they have a tough division match-up tonight against the Padres (9-5) who just swept the Braves and have now won four games in a row. Julio Urias (0-1) will start for LAD and he’s coming off a great second game, allowing only 1 hit in 5 innings.
