Home runs continue to rise in the 2022 MLB season. Remember, when the season started the home run rate historically low. In each of the first four weeks of the new season, the home run rate was less than 1.00 per game.
Then, something happened. In the second week of May, homers jumped to 1.15 from 0.97 the week before. The numbers have continued to rise and hit a season high of 1.21 per nine innings during the week of May 30 to June 5.
Aaron Judge continues to lead the majors with 30 homers. Will he hit one today? Here are the top MLB home run props picks for Thursday, July 7, 2022.
Kyle Schwarber OVER 0.5 HRs (+210)
Nationals vs. Phillies Predictions
The guy is just a home run machine. Over the past week, Schwarber has hit five home runs. Why you should play this prop today has more to do with his opponent – the Washington Nationals.
Schwarber is second in the majors in home runs with 27. He has hit six of those 27 dingers against the Nationals. Today, he’ll face Washington pitcher Joan Adon, who has been a disaster.
Adon is 1-11 and has a 6.97 ERA. For the season, Adon has allowed eight homers with three of them coming in his last three starts.
C.J. Cron OVER 0.5 HRs (+300)
Rockies vs. Diamondbacks Predictions
Cron leads the Rockies with 20 home runs this season. Over the last week, he’s hit three and he’s seeing the ball very well. He’s 7-for-23 over that seven-day span.
Cron will have a huge advantage today when he faces Arizona pitcher Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel is just 2-6 with a monstrous 8.27 ERA. In his last start, Keuchel faced these same Rockies. He allowed seven runs, six earned and Colorado won 11-7. In his last four starts, Keuchel has allowed 6, 6, 4, and 6 earned runs.
In that game against Keuchel, Cron was 2-for-5. He’ll get the best of the D-Backs pitcher today.

Mookie Betts – OVER 0.5 HRs (+265)
Betts now has four games under his belt since returning from an injury. He has hit safely in each of the four games so far. He has one homer – against Colorado – in that span.
That one home run gives Betts 18 for the season, the most on the Dodgers. Tonight, Betts will bat against the Cubs. Mark Leiter Jr. starts and then the Cubs bullpen will take over. Chicago is one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball.
The Cubs rank 25th in ERA and 25th in bullpen ERA. Leiter has only given up three home runs, but he rarely pitches more than three innings a reliever turned starter. Advantage Betts.
Jonathan Schoop – OVER 0.5 HRs (+550)
Tigers vs. White Sox Predictions
Schoop has just six homers this year and he’s hitting a paltry .209, but he has had some success going up against White Sox ace Dylan Cease.
Cease is one of the more dominant pitchers in the game with a 7-3 record and a 2.51 ERA. He leads the majors with a 13.1 K/9 average and is third in strikeouts with 125. Cease has allowed seven home runs this season.
Schoop is one of the few hitters that has had success against Cease on a consistent basis. He is hitting .316 against Cease for his career and has two home runs in 19 at-bats. Of Cease’s seven homers allowed, two have come in his last two starts.
