Major League Baseball returns from a weekend of excitement with a lighter, yet still packed schedule of action Monday.
One of the biggest stories in the league thus far has been how disappointing the Boston Red Sox (fourth in the American League East) and Atlanta Braves (fourth in the National League East) have been, while the Los Angeles Angels are quietly right in the mix for the best record in baseball.
Setting aside season trajectories and team performances, here are the best over/under bets for Monday, May 2.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Miami Marlins
Diamondbacks vs. Marlins Picks
Best Bet: Under 6.5 Runs
Normally, betting unders on totals less than seven in nine-inning games is terrifying— however, this matchup is the exception to the rule. There are multiple factors in play that could lead to this game going under. The biggest one is the pitching matchup between Pablo Lopez and Zac Gallen. Although neither one has a name that carries tons of weight in the baseball world, they have a combined ERA of 0.99. Again, combined.
The Diamondbacks and Marlins are also in the bottom-third in total team scoring. This shows that they do not have the beats nor consistency to overcome two pitchers who have been playing lights-out lately. Again, the low total is scary, but this is one of the best bets for Monday’s games.
Minnesota Twins vs. Baltimore Orioles
Best Bet: Over 7.5 Runs

A 7.5 total seems fairly low for the teams in play. The Orioles are inconsistent, that much is true, but they do have the ability to put runs on the board. The Twins are in the top half of the league in scoring and are tied for seventh in home runs.
The pitching matchup between Chris Paddack and Tyler Wells is also not exactly one of the best in the league. They have produced 3.68 and 5.54 ERAs. Both squads also managed nine-run wins their last time on the diamond. They should be able to carry that momentum into today’s battle.
New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Best Bet: Over 8.5 Runs
The American League East loves beating on itself. However, in the process has managed to set a strange precedent of games that are supposed to go over going under, and vice versa. The overall talent in the box should lead to today’s affair going over, even if the total is set a bit higher than most.
New York leads the division at 16-6 and is on a nine-game win streak. The Blue jays are a game and a half back. The tight division standings heighten the stake in the affair and should produce better at-bats for each of the teams.
The pitching matchup between Ross Stripling and Jordan Montgomery is also not amazing. The power bats on each side are likely to send at least a couple of balls into orbit Monday night. It remains to be seen which team wins the game, and the series, but game one is set to go over 8.5.
