The 2022 MLB campaign is approaching its intermission, setting the stage for storylines driving the back half of the season.
The New York Yankees have dominated the rest of the league thus far. The Los Angeles Dodgers have finally begun to emerge from a crowded National League East.
Here are the best underdogs to watch out for on Wednesday.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Miami Marlins
Best Bet: Marlins ML (+156)
The Angels have lost four straight games, while the Marlins have won six straight. This includes game one in their ongoing series with LA.
Miami tends to rely heavily upon its pitching staff to carry it to victories. This was shown in yesterday’s game, which was headlined by eight scoreless innings from Sandy Alcantara.
But on Wednesday, they will have to get some hits on Shohei Ohtani. He has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts.
Miami, meanwhile, will start Trevor Rogers. He had a tremendous sophomore campaign but is only 4-6 with a 5.56 ERA this year.
Texas Rangers vs. Baltimore Orioles
Rangers vs. Orioles Prediction
Best Bet: Orioles ML (-104)
The Rangers-Orioles matchup pits the two best teams against the spread against one another. The Orioles have been dominant in betting markets through the first two games, winning both and covering the spread.
Texas has more on-paper talent, especially in terms of explosive offensive forces. However, the Orioles play with a tremendous spirit and make key plays when given the opportunity more times than not.
The pitching matchup between Glenn Otto and Spenser Watkins slightly favors Baltimore. It would not be a surprise to see them go three for three in the series.

New York Yankees vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Yankees vs. Pirates Prediction
Best Bet: Pirates ML (+198)
The Pirates are, somewhat inexplicably, 8-1 against the New York Yankees and Dodgers this season. Meaning, they get up for the big challenges despite being well under .500 on the year.
Pittsburgh also won Tuesday’s series opener against the pinstripers 5-2. Now they will have an easier matchup with Luis Severino (4-3, 3.35 ERA). He has been the least effective starter in NY’s rotation of pitchers.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox
Best Bet: Rays ML (+116)
Do not write off the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East just yet. Last year’s champions rebounded from a 4-0 shutout loss in game one against the Sox. They rallied to an 8-4 victory on Tuesday. This continued their trend of avoiding extended losing streaks.
With the win, they moved within one game of Boston for the second spot in the division.
Boston will also be starting a player in Brayan Bello. He will be granted his Major-League debut after impressing in the minor leagues.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves
Cardinals vs. Braves Prediction
Best Bet: Cardinals ML (+144)
In the spirit of transparency, the Braves have dominated the Cardinals through two games in their ongoing series. They’re winning by a combined score of 13-4.
However, St. Louis is slowly falling behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. They desperately need a win to stabilize what has become a poor stretch. They will get a great chance with Miles Mikolas (5-6, 2.61 ERA) leading the effort from the mound.
However, Atlanta will counter with Max Fried (8-2, 2.66 ERA), so the game could easily come down to the battle in the box.
