There haven’t been many changes at the top of each division in MLS play. LAFC continues to lead the West Division with 48 points and the league’s best record at 15-3-4.
Philadelphia is still leading the East with a 12-9-2 record this season. Last year’s MLS Cup champion New York City FC is close behind at 12-6-4 and 42 points. Austin FC is 13-5-5 and has 44 points and is second to LAFC in the West.
How will any of these teams fare in today’s action? Here are the MLS predictions for Saturday, August 6th 2022.
FC Cincinnati vs. Philadelphia Union
PICK: PHILADELPHIA +145
Philadelphia delivered a 6-0 spanking over Houston last weekend which extended the Union’s winning streak to five games. Philadelphia has just one loss in its last 16 matches.
The Union is in sole possession of first place in the MLS East with 45 points. They have a three-point lead over New York City FC. Only LAFC has more points (48) than Philadelphia.
FC Cincinnati has one win in their previous 11 matches. They have six draws in their last seven matches. Cincy has a record of 3-4-4 at home. They just don’t have the firepower to match up with Philly.
Austin FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes
PICK: AUSTIN FC -175
These two teams are at the opposite ends of the spectrum. Austin FC has just five losses in its 23 MLS matches this season. With a 13-5-5 record, Austin has 44 points and is second to LAFC in the MLS West.
San Jose, on the other hand, is 5-8-10 and has 23 points. The Earthquakes are just one spot above last- place Sporting Kansas City in the West Division.
Austin is the top scoring team in MLS with 47 goals for an average of 2.04 per game. Sebastian Driussi leads with 14 goals and seven assists.
San Jose has just two wins in their last ten matches. They also have the worst defense in the West. That’s why Austin FC will win.
Real Salt Lake vs. Los Angeles FC
PICK: LAFC +145

LAFC has won its last four matches in a row. As a result, they have an MLS-best 15 wins and a record of 15-3-4 for the season. Their 48 points are tops in MLS.
Tonight, they take on Real Salt Lake which is fifth in the MLS West standings at 9-7-7 and 34 points. RSL has just one win in its last seven matches and that came against the worst team in MLS – Sporting Kansas City.
LAFC has just one loss in its last ten matches. They are also 6-1-3 in road matches. The best team in MLS in just in a class by itself right now and RSL is no match.
Portland Timbers vs. FC Dallas
PICK: PORTLAND +110
Portland hasn’t lost a match in MLS play since May 28. The Timbers are also 6-3-3 at home this season. They have battled to consecutive ties with Nashville and Minnesota scoring five goals in the process.
FC Dallas is 2-1 in its last three matches, but they lost last week to Seattle 1-0. The two wins represent FC Dallas’s only two wins in their last ten matches. On the road, Dallas is just 2-6-4 and they have only produced 12 points on the road this season.
The home team has won five of the last six head-to-head matches. The sixth one was a draw.
