MLS Predictions for Sunday, July 3rd 2022

LAFC continues to rule Major League Soccer and the West Division. The club has an MLS best 11-3-3 record. With 36 points, LAFC sits atop the West and seven-point lead over Real Salt Lake.

CF Montreal (9-2-6) and Philadelphia (7-8-2) lead the East. Both teams have 28 points, which is one ahead of third-place New York City FC.

It’s a busy Fourth of July weekend in MLS. Here are the top MLS predictions for Sunday, July 3, 2022.

New York City FC vs. Atlanta

Pick: NYFC -150

No overthinking here. New York City FC is one of the better teams in the MLS. Atlanta is not. Atlanta has just two wins in its last 10 matches. One of those is over Chicago, which has spent plenty of time this season in the basement of the East Division.

New York, on the other hand, has just one loss among its last 10 matches. The only loss came at the hands of Philadelphia, which is just one point ahead of New York in the East Division standings.

NYFC has beaten Atlanta at home in the last three straight and the team from the Big Apple is 6-2-1 at home this season. Atlanta has just one win on the road this year.

Columbus Crew vs. Philadelphia Union

Pick: PHILADELPHIA +205

These two teams met back in April in Philadelphia. The Union took just 10 shots but recorded a 1-0 victory. Now, the two teams meet again but in Columbus this time.

The Crew has three wins and three losses at home this season and after being identified as a favorite for the MLS Cup, Columbus has disappointed this season. They are 5-6-5 overall with 21 points.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, is tied for the East Division lead. The Union’s overall record is 7-8-2. They have lost just once in their last ten matches and that just happened to be last week. The Union suffered a 1-0 upset loss to Chicago.

The Union will be looking to avenge that loss this week and keep pace with CF Montreal in the East.

How to Bet on MLS

Sporting Kansas City vs. New York Red Bulls

Pick: NEW YORK +160

Sporting Kansas City’s 2022 season continues to get worse. The club lost last week 3-0 to Seattle giving KC its third loss in its last three matches. That gives Sporting KC 10 losses in its last 18 league matches.

Sporting KC is now just one point ahead of West Division last-place San Jose. KC is 4-4-10 with 16 points this season.

The Red Bulls have won three of their last five including last week’s 2-1 win over Atlanta. The Red Bulls continue to push for the top spot in the East.

Against a struggling Sporting KC, the Red Bulls win again.

Nashville SC vs. Portland Timbers

Pick: DRAW +245

Portland started the 2022 season terribly, but has rebounded and is now just four points behind Nashville in the West standings. The Timbers have taken seven of a possible nine points since their last loss on May 28.

Portland has five road wins this season so playing on the road won’t faze them. Nashville plays well at home, but they only have a +3 goal differential. This one ends up in a draw.
