NASCAR Preview: 2021 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Picks

This week the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. Atlanta is known for high speeds, tire wear, and white knuckle driving due to the worn track surface. It’s also known for crew chiefs worrying about gas mileage.

Atlanta is also known for Ford drivers making the trip to the winner’s circle as the Blue Oval has been the winning car for the last four races at Atlanta. Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski have split the wins over the last four years.

Top Online Bookies for NASCAR

Harvick comes in at +550 with Brad Keselowski at +650. They are the only two active drivers in the top- five favorites with Cup Series wins at the track. Past winners at Atlanta are dwindling. Aside from Harvick and Keseklowsi, the only other active Cup driver that has won in the ATL are Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch.

Here are the top-five favorites at +650 and under to win the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 outright according to Intertops.

Kevin Harvick +550

Martin Truex Jr +550

Kyle Larson +650

Brad Keselowski +650

Chase Elliott +650

2021 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Predictions

Kevin Harvick +550

Atlanta is a track where Kevin Harvick seems to be the leader every year! He’s great at the track and has two wins to show for it. He’s also racked you stage wins and plenty of top-five and top-ten finishes. It’s a no-brainer that he’s a favorite heading into the race weekend. In the past, he’s had issues with pit stops and fuel towards the end. Avoid those… and he’s an ATL winner again.

Denny Hamlin +850

Denny Hamlin has a win at Atlanta but it came back in 2012. In his last ten Atlanta starts, he’s finished inside the top-ten five times. Last season he finished 5th , in 2019 he placed 11th , and the year prior he crossed the line 4th – not bad. So far this season he’s finished 5th or better in four of five races.

Kyle Busch +1000

Kyle Busch has yet to return to the same form he had when racing for his second Cup Series Championship. Atlanta could change that. Over ten races he’s finished, statistically, every lap of every race at the ATL. Over nine Cup starts he’s completed 2941 of 2942 laps completed (100.0%) with 139 laps led. Last year he finished in second place.

Others to Consider: I like Kyle Larson (+650) as he showed dominance at Atlanta during his last visit. The only reason he didn’t win was due to poor decisions by his team when it came to fuel mileage. Martin Truex Jr. (+1400) was the winner last week and has the second-best NASCAR Fantasy stats for Atlanta Motor Speedway behind Kevin Harvick. I’m just not ready to commit to back-to-back wins this season as five races to date have been won by five different drivers.
