We’re in store for plenty of great NBA betting action on Sunday. Here are three totals to bet for the day.
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Charlotte Hornets Preview
Best Bet: OVER 221 Points
Our first bet of the night is between two teams with exciting young offenses, the Pelicans and Hornets.
Both teams have offensive advantages that make this over a safe play on Sunday.
New Orleans, led by Zion Williamson’s 27.0 points per game, are second in the NBA in points in the paint. The Hornets defense is susceptible to interior scoring, the clear weakness of the defense.
Williamson should be able to power much of this over himself.
Charlotte has an even bigger advantage in their favor. The Hornets offense does one thing: shoot threes.
As a top-ten offense from deep, they get New Orleans’ 30th-ranked perimeter defense. The Pelicans won’t be able to stop the Hornets from scoring, with each of Terry Rozier and Devonte Graham shooting over seven threes per game.
Expect a big game for the Hornets guards, and take this over to the bank.
New Orleans is 40-26 against over/unders this season; Charlotte is 28-37-1.
New York Knicks vs. LA Clippers Preview
Best Bet: UNDER 215 Points
The second pick of the night is between two of the best defenses in the NBA – and it’s a solid game to target the under.
Obviously, any under play starts on the defensive end – and for a good reason. The Knicks and Clippers have top-five overall defenses and should be able to make life difficult on the opposing offenses.
The Clippers have the slight advantage on that end, with a top-ten offense of their own – but the Knicks offense is a bottom-ten unit.
What makes the under pick so enticing is the pace of play of these two offenses. Pace can be calculated by field goals attempted per game and possessions per game.
Both of these offenses slog through games—the Clippers rank 27th in pace, the Knicks rank 29th.
With two slow offenses and two elite defenses, points will be at a premium on Sunday night. Bet the under.
The Knicks are 30-36 against over/unders this year; the Clippers are 33-32-2.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Sacramento Kings Preview
Best Bet: OVER 221.5 Points
While both of these teams are out of the playoff race, they both should be able to put up plenty of points.
The over, in this instance, is built around Sacramento. The Kings own a top-ten offense, play at a top-ten pace, and have one of the very worst defenses in the NBA.
Put those three things together, and you get high-scoring games. The Thunder play at an above-average pace themselves and own a similarly poor defense. The Kings should be able to take advantage of this Oklahoma City defense and power this over to fruition.
The Kings also have an advantage in the paint. They rank inside the top-ten of points in the paint, while the Thunder defense is one of the worst at defending the interior.
It’s a choice matchup – trust the Kings to break out of their scoring slump against the Thunder.
Sacramento is 34-32 against over/unders, Oklahoma City is 33-34.
