NFL Week 5 Underdog Picks – Best Moneyline Bets

This week was not kind to Coach Rick’s NFL week 4 moneyline dogs. The Jets, of course, figured out a way to blow a fourth quarter lead and the Bengals actually found a way to win a game.

Week 5 yields a few more interesting moneyline underdogs including a trifecta of home dogs that includes the 3-1 Cleveland Browns. What?

Yes, somehow the Browns have won three games but they welcome the NFL’s best defense – the Colts – to Cleveland on Sunday. Coach Rick doesn’t know about that one, but here’s a look at the best moneyline underdogs in Week 5.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Chicago Bears Picks

The Bears lost their first game of the season last week to Indianapolis. The Colts have the best defense in the entire NFL. The Colts allowed Chicago just 269 yards of offense and 11 points. It was 19-3 with just 1:35 to play before the Bears scored a touchdown to make the final 19-11.

Now, Chicago welcomes Tampa Bay, which is also 3-1, to Soldier Field. The Bucs beat the Chargers last week as Tom Brady threw five touchdown passes. With the short week, the Bucs could be without RBs LeSean McCoy and Leonard Fournette. WR Chris Godwin is doubtful with a hamstring injury.

Injuries could play a role on Thursday as could a pretty good Bears defense. Chicago is eighth in total defense thus far this season.

What you can’t count on though is backing the Bears against the spread. They are just 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games. But, they are 13-4 SU in their last 17 home games against Tampa Bay.

Home underdogs have plenty of success in the NFL. Chicago will on Thursday night.

Best Moneyline Pick: Chicago Bears +192

Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Jets Picks

Coach Rick can’t believe he’s going to do it again. Look, the Jets are bad, but these are still professional athletes that we are talking about. Hey, New York scored 28 points last week. Sam Darnold even had a 46-yard touchdown run. Who knew he could even run that far?

Seriously though, one stat stands out in examining this game on Sunday. The last five times that Arizona has played at New York the Jets are 4-1 SU.

The Jets haven’t covered a spread all season. They average just 16.3 points per game. Only the Giants are worse (11.8). But, at some point this season, the Jets are going to win a game.

Yes, Arizona has QB Kyler Murray and WR DeAndre Hopkins. Guess what that combo got the Cardinals last week? A total of 262 total yards of offense and 31-21 beatdown from Carolina that would have been worse if not for Murray’s two-yard TD pass to Chase Edmonds with 2:13 left in the game.

Cardinals RB Kenyan Drake is questionable for Sunday as are S Chris Banjo and LB Devon Kennard. The trip east could play a role in the outcome. Coach Rick thinks it’s Jets upset time!

Best Moneyline Pick: New York Jets +235

Indianapolis Colts vs. Cleveland Browns Picks

Okay, fine. The Browns were actually pretty impressive in their win last week over Dallas. Still, Cleveland has beaten three teams with a combined 2020 record of 3-8-1.

The Colts are pretty good. The defense is outstanding, as mentioned previously. On offense, Philip Rivers leads an offense that is efficient enough to win games. But, if you want to get technical, the Colts three wins were over teams with a combined record of 4-8.

Indy just happens to be 1-6 SU in its last seven road games. Cleveland is 6-1 SU in their last seven at home. The Browns offense has scored 35, 34, and 49 in its last three games. The Colts have allowed 11, 7, and 11 points in their last three games. Something has to give.

Best Moneyline Pick: Cleveland Browns +125
