NHL Handicappers Have a Weak Showing This Week

It’s been a momentous week for hockey. The regular season is near its close, and the playoff teams are pretty well determined. Alexander Ovechkin broke Gretzky’s goal record, and the NHL handicappers at ScoresandStats.com have been cooking up wins left and right.

Top NHL Handicappers Last Week

Last week, we saw the top five NHL handicappers make $2,263 in combined profit. They went 47-30, for an overall 61% win rate.

After seeing the paltry winnings from the previous week, $2,200 is a positive jump. This time around, we’re seeing the computer picks models reassert their dominance. SAS Insider, Sports Central, and Sports Hub Insider have all had their ups and downs this season, but they’re getting lucky this week.

And of course, Mike Hawk rounds out the top 5 with a 9-3 record, better than his 10-6 record he ended with during the last recap.

SAS Insider Makes Moneylines Work

SAS Insider is no stranger to the leaderboard. It has been a consistent contender all season long. Last week, it made #1 spot with moneyline wagers.

As you can see, it went 13-5 for moneylines, which was very good. But, it also lost 5 totals wagers, resulting in a massive cut in profits. Totals can be tough, and after two or three losses, I would have called it quits, but they persevered for another few losses.

But SAS Insider’s moneylines are really what interest me. Most computer picks models will wager favorites across the board, but Insider placed a good number of dogs wagers as well.

The Kraken at +200, the Penguins at +240, the Canucks at +180, the list goes on. These moneylines are very instrumental in boosting profit here, because totals and spreads will net you $100 per wager, mostly. But with these wagers, you can bring in $200+ easy per wager.

That’s not to say betting underdogs should be your primary strategy. But spacing out those bets and using a solid NHL betting strategy can get you places.

Pretty soon we’ll be doing an NHL season recap, looking at some of the top handicappers from all of last season. As it stands, SAS Insider is a strong contender for the top 5, if not the top spot. They have been consistently present, and laying out hundreds of bets over the NHL season.

Where Our Money’s at This Week

Well, it happened. Ovechkin broke Gretzky’s goal record on Sunday in a game against the Islanders. He’s at 895 goals so far this season. Even though the Islanders beat the Capitals 4-1, Capitals fans walked away from that game ecstatic.

We’ll definitely still be watching the Capitals this season, particularly in their bout against the Hurricanes on Thursday and the Blue Jackets on Saturday. Ovechkin still has the chance to push his goals record higher, making it even more difficult for the next hockey star to break his streak.

The Playoffs are only a week and a half away at this point, and many of the contenders are locked in. Of course we see the Capitals, the Jets, the Hurricanes, but we’re more interested in the wild card contestants.

The Rangers and the Flames are closest to breaking into the Wild Card spot, but they will definitely struggle, especially with so little time left. The Rangers can edge out the Canadiens if they win all 4 games this week (and if the Canadiens lose all their games), but is that likely? Probably not, but it will be fun to watch them try anyways.
