Only a 56% Win Rate, But $2k Profit for Handicappers

Round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs has come and gone, and only 8 teams are left. We’ve bid adieu to the Avalanche and the Blues, both of whom put up a good fight.

Last week wasn’t the finest showing from our handicappers, but they’re still in the green, and amped up for Round 2. Check out what they did last week:

Top NHL Handicappers Last Week

Last week was a weird one for NHL handicappers. A seasoned veteran, Sean Kuchman, tops the charts with over $500 in profit, but a crippling 43.9% win rate.

Combined with the flawless records of the other top handicappers, the total for last week is 30-23, $1,924 in profit, and a 56.6% win rate.

NHL Leader Board 5 7 1

In the previous week, the NHL handicappers maintained a 75% win rate, which was a drop from their previous highs. But, they also didn’t make as much money as this week. At the end of the day, it’s all about profit.

What Happened, Kuchman?

Sean Kuchman is a ScoresandStats staple, showing up in leaderboards across multiple sports over the past year.

He usually has a pretty solid approach and maintains a 50+ win percentage. So what happened last week?

Well, Kuchman branched out and started betting player props for the NHL. And despite going 15-17 with player props, he still managed to bring in $665!

Kuchman wagered over 0.5 points props for dozens of players. That means all the player has to do is score at least 1 goal, and Kuchman makes his money. All these wagers are underdog wagers, with a range of odds from +120 to +170. At those kinds of odds, Kuchman could afford to lose more than he won. He’d make more money by winning a few at positive odds than he’d lose. It’s definitely a wild approach, but considering he made almost $700 doing it, it’s pretty smart.

But where he went wrong was shifting to bet underdog moneylines, too.

That’s where he lost a lot of his money he’d won. Hopefully he adjusts his strategy for Round 2, because if he hones in on his player prop approach, he should be able to make a decent amount.

Where Our Money’s at This Week

All the teams for Round 2 have been decided, and last night we kicked off the first few games already.

In the West, the Jets face the Stars while the Golden Knights take on the Oilers. And in the East, The Maple Leafs face the Panthers while the Capitals and Hurricanes go at it.

NHL Playoff Bracket

Our handicappers have yet to get their picks in for tonight’s games, but I’d wager money on a Jets moneyline, even though they are the underdogs. And tomorrow, the Hurricanes have my heart. The Capitals have lost some steam after they celebrated Ovechkin’s goal record, and the Hurricanes have just been heating up.
