Last year THE PLAYERS Championship was canceled due to COVID 19 but it returns this week for the 2021 season at TPC Sawgrass. Get ready for great camera work on the No 17 par-3 small Island green. Rory Rory McIlroy is the defending winner and comes in at +1200 just behind Dustin Johnson at +1100.

McIlroy won in 2019 by going 16-under for a one-stroke win over Jim Furyk who is not in this year’s event. Webb Simpson won THE PLAYERS in 2018 and comes in at +2000. Bryson DeChambeau enters at +1200 and is fresh off his win last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he was the lone golfer to finish one under.

Learn How to Bet on the PGA Tour

TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course is one of Florida’s premier courses and its Island green is well known to all PGA fans. The course is home to the PGA Tour and the first TPC courses to be built and was designed by Pete and Alice Dye.

What makes the course unique is that it was designed to host THE PLAYERS Championship and is considered one of the toughest courses on tour. It contains narrow fairways, plenty of water hazards including marshes, and bunkers placed around every landing area.

Let’s not forget seagulls as a hazard! The Island green is where a ball hit by Brad Fabel landed on the green, came to a rest, and then was picked up by a seagull who flew off with it before dropping it in the water.

Hopefully, the scoring will be better than last week at the Arnold Palmer – but still expect the course to take a few strokes away from golfers. They will all have to be accurate off the tee this week as there is little room for mistakes.

2021 THE PLAYERS Championship Predictions

Dustin Johnson +1100

Dustin Johnson is the favorite to win outright and once again the top-ranked golfer in the world. He’s played well at TPC Sawgrass including a T5 in 2019. He is solid with the driver and finishing things well up with his putter. Johnson has six T11 or better finishes in his last seven tournaments including winning the COVID delayed Masters.

Xander Schauffele +2000

Xander Schauffele has had some great rounds at TPC Sawgrass and then hit a bump in the road. His first time at THE PLAYERS ins 2018 he finished T2 but went on to miss the cut in 2019. So far this season he’s been more consistent with five top-five finishes and only one event where he finished outside of the 17th spot.

Jordan Spieth +2500

Jordan Spieth seems to have found his grove this season after a strange couple of years where he took a freefall from the top of the rankings. Spieth enters the week with three top-four finishes including a T4 from last week at Bay Hill. He can certainly be a threat on Sunday if he keeps his level of play up.

Others I Like: Tony Finau (+2500) could be a surprise this week if his accuracy is on point. Finau remains hot this season while looking for his next PGA win. Tommy Fleetwood is a great value pick at +3500 with two great showings in 2018 (T7) and 2019 where he carded a T5.
