Guardians vs White Sox Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

No bet on the White Sox or the Guardians in Game 3. Our number leans to Chicago, by 3 points, short of the 5 a bet needs.

DraftKings has the White Sox at -122 and the Guardians at +101. With the margin removed, that is 52.5% for Chicago. Our number for the White Sox is 55.5%. The gap is 3 points, and the threshold for a bet is 5.

How the number is built

The method in one clause: each team’s run-based win rate for the 2026 regular season, set against each other, then moved by how often home teams won this season.

The run-based rate uses runs alone. It is runs scored to the power 1.83, divided by that same figure plus runs allowed to the power 1.83. The White Sox scored 776 and allowed 720 in 162 games, which gives 53.4%. Their actual record was 84-78, a 51.9% rate.

The Guardians scored 678 and allowed 667, for 50.7% against an actual 85-77, a 52.5% rate. Cleveland won one more game than Chicago, and Chicago’s runs were better by a wider margin. The method reads the runs.

Set against each other on a neutral field, those two rates give the White Sox 52.7%. Home teams went 1,284-1,145 in the 2026 regular season, a 52.9% rate. Adding that edge takes the White Sox to 55.5% and leaves the Guardians at 44.5%.

The series so far

This is a best-of-five American League Division Series, and the White Sox lead it 2-0. They won Game 1 at Progressive Field, 3-0, on Saturday 3 October, and Game 2 there, 4-3, on Monday 5 October.

Game 3 is at Rate Field. A White Sox win ends the series. A Guardians win forces Game 4, also at Rate Field, on Thursday 8 October, and a Game 5 would go back to Cleveland on Saturday 10 October. ESPN lists both as “If Necessary”.

The White Sox reached this round by beating the Astros 2-0 in the Wild Card Series. None of these games is in our number. It rests on 162 regular-season games for each team.

The starters

Neither team had announced a starter for Game 3 when this was read. Our number does not use the starters in any case: it is built from what each team did across 162 games each, with every pitcher each used.

The market will price whoever is named. A starter announced after this was written can move the price past the numbers below, so check the price against them.

The White Sox at home, the Guardians on the road

The White Sox went 48-33 at home, scoring 4.94 runs a game and allowing 4.04. The Guardians went 44-37 on the road, scoring 4.21 and allowing 3.93. Cleveland was the better team away from home this season: 41-40 at home, against 44-37 on the road.

The method uses the full season for both teams, because a home or road split halves the sample. The splits are here so you can see what that choice leaves out.

The teams met 13 times in the regular season, and the White Sox won seven. Seven of the 13 were decided by one run. That is 13 games, and they prove nothing about this one.

The price

The White Sox opened at -120 and the Guardians at -101. Read at 06:51 UTC on 6 October, DraftKings via ESPN, they were -122 and +101. Cleveland has drifted from -101 to plus money.

The market’s figure is the moneyline with the margin taken out. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so they add up to more than 100%. Here it is 4.7 points.

Pick: pass on the moneyline

No bet at White Sox -122 or Guardians +101. Our number for the White Sox is 55.5%, the market’s is 52.5%, and a 3-point gap is short of the 5-point threshold.

The White Sox become a bet at -112 or any price that pays more. The Guardians would need +142. Between those two prices, it is a pass.

What changes it

The price first, and the starters will move it. A White Sox price of -112 or longer makes this a bet on Chicago; the read above is a day before first pitch, so check it again.

Then the lineups. A season of runs says how these two teams played from March to September, and nothing on this page says who is in either lineup. Check them before you bet.

The total

The total is 7.5, down from an opening 8, with the over at -118 and the under at -102. Pass on the total.

Over the season, 100 of 162 White Sox games went over 7.5, and 85 of 162 Guardians games. Those games were started by every pitcher in both rotations. A postseason total is set for the two starters named, so we pass on every postseason total, this one included.
