Guardians vs Rays Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet on Game 6. The Tampa Bay Rays lead the series 3-2 and are home at Tropicana Field, and the market’s price on them sits within a point of our number: there is nothing to take on either side.
DraftKings has the Rays at -148 and the Cleveland Guardians at +123 for Monday’s game, 8:00 PM ET. Those two prices carry a 4.5-point margin. Remove it and the market reads Tampa Bay 57.1% and Cleveland 42.9%. Ours reads Tampa Bay 57.7% and Cleveland 42.3%. That leaves the Rays 0.6 points better than their price says, and we bet at 5.
Where the series stands
Tampa Bay won Game 5, 3-1, at Progressive Field on Sunday, and leads the ALCS three games to two. A Rays win on Monday ends the series. A Guardians win sends it to Game 7, on Tuesday at Tropicana Field.
Cleveland won Game 1, 7-3, and Tampa Bay won Game 2, 3-1, both at Tropicana Field. In Cleveland, the Guardians won Game 3, 3-2, and the Rays won Games 4 and 5, 7-3 and 3-1.
Our Game 5 page was no bet: “No bet at Rays -132 or Guardians +110.” Its lean was to Cleveland, by 2.3 points, short of the 5 it takes, so there was nothing to win or lose. It also passed on the total of 6.5, and the game finished with 4 runs.
How Game 5 went
Tampa Bay scored a run in each of the first three innings for a 3-0 lead. Cleveland’s only run came in the sixth.
Drew Rasmussen started for the Rays and allowed one run on four hits over seven innings, with six strikeouts and one walk, and got the win. Cam Booser, Tyler Wells and Bryan Baker finished the last two innings without a run, Baker with the save. Parker Messick started for the Guardians and lasted two innings, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts, and took the loss. Tim Herrin allowed the third run in the third, and four Cleveland relievers held the Rays scoreless over the last six innings. Tampa Bay had 12 hits to Cleveland’s 5, neither club hit a home run, and neither made an error.
How the number is built
Three steps, the same on every baseball page. Rate each club on the runs it scored and allowed in the 2026 regular season, put the two rates against each other, then add the edge home teams earned across the league this year.
Tampa Bay scored 736 runs and allowed 650 in 162 games. Runs scored to the power 1.83, divided by that figure plus runs allowed to the same power, gives the Rays 55.7%. Their 98-64 record is a 60.5% rate. Cleveland scored 678 and allowed 667: 50.7% by runs, 52.5% by an 85-77 record.
On a neutral field those rates make Tampa Bay 54.9% to win. Home teams went 1,284-1,145 in the 2026 regular season, a 52.9% rate, and with that added the Rays reach 57.7%. That is the same number as for Games 1 and 2 at Tropicana Field: it reads the 162 regular-season games and nothing after them, so five postseason games have not moved it.
The starters
ESPN lists Freddy Peralta for Tampa Bay and no starter yet for Cleveland (read 19 October 2026, 04:13 UTC).
Peralta went 10-11 in the 2026 regular season with a 4.42 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP over 32 starts and 169 innings, with 156 strikeouts and 63 walks. He throws right-handed. He started Game 2 of this series and went six innings without allowing a run, on four hits, with six strikeouts and two walks, and got the win; Tampa Bay won 3-1.
The number on this page does not change with a name: the method rates clubs on a full season of runs, whoever pitched. The market does price the starters, and it may move when Cleveland names one. The price is what decides whether this becomes a bet.
The season behind it
The Rays went 55-26 at home in the regular season, scoring 4.60 runs a game and allowing 3.98. The Guardians went 44-37 on the road with 4.21 scored and 3.93 allowed. The method uses the full season for both, because a split cuts each sample in half.
The clubs met six times in the regular season and Tampa Bay won five. Three of those games were at Tropicana Field, from 24 to 26 July, and the Rays won all three. Six games are too few to move a rate built on 162, and they are already inside each club’s season totals.
The price
DraftKings, via ESPN, opened Game 6 with the Rays at -130 and the Guardians at +108. At 04:13 UTC on 19 October it had the Rays at -148 and the Guardians at +123.
The market’s percentages here are the moneyline with its margin removed. The margin was 4.5 points at that read, and the two prices under the pick are worked out with it.
Pick: No bet
No bet at Rays -148 or Guardians +123. The lean is to Tampa Bay, by 0.6 points: ours is 57.7% for the Rays and the market’s is 57.1%. The threshold is 5.
The Rays become a bet at -122 or longer. The Guardians become one at +157 or longer. At any price between those two, pass.
What changes it
The price is the first thing. This read is about 20 hours before first pitch. Tampa Bay would have to drift from -148 to -122 before it is worth a bet. Cleveland would have to go from +123 to +157.
The starters are the second. Cleveland has no starter listed yet, and when it names one the market may move while our number will not. Compare the Rays price with -122, and the Guardians price with +157, before taking a side.
The total
The total is 6.5, with the over at -114 and the under at -106, where it opened. Pass on the total.
In the regular season the Rays went over 6.5 in 104 of 162 games and the Guardians in 102. Those counts include every pitcher either club used all year. A postseason total is set on the two starters of the day, which a season count cannot see, so we pass on every postseason total.
