Dodgers vs Braves Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
No bet on the Dodgers or the Braves in Game 3. Our number leans to Los Angeles, by 3.8 points, short of the 5 a bet needs.
The market has this the other way round. DraftKings has the Braves at -115 and the Dodgers at -104, which with the margin removed is 51.2% for Atlanta and 48.8% for Los Angeles. Our number is 52.6% for the Dodgers and 47.4% for the Braves. The gap is 3.8 points, and the threshold for a bet is 5.
How the number is built
The method in one clause: each team’s run-based win rate for the 2026 regular season, set against each other, then moved by how often home teams won this season.
The run-based rate uses runs alone. It is runs scored to the power 1.83, divided by that same figure plus runs allowed to the power 1.83. The Dodgers scored 801 and allowed 600 in 162 games, which gives 62.9%. Their actual record was 100-62, a 61.7% rate. The Braves scored 742 and allowed 626, for 57.7% against an actual 94-68.
Set against each other on a neutral field, those two rates give the Braves 44.6%. Home teams went 1,284-1,145 in the 2026 regular season, a 52.9% rate. Adding that edge takes the Braves to 47.4% and leaves the Dodgers at 52.6%.
The series so far
This is a best-of-five National League Division Series. The Dodgers won Game 1 at Dodger Stadium, 5-3, on Saturday 3 October. The Braves won Game 2 there, 3-2, on Sunday 4 October. The series is tied 1-1.
Games 3 and 4 are at Truist Park, tonight and Wednesday 7 October, and Game 4 is played whatever happens tonight. The winner of Game 3 leads 2-1 and needs one more win. A Game 5, if it is needed, goes back to Dodger Stadium on Friday 9 October.
The Braves reached this round through the Wild Card Series, 2-1 over the Phillies. Nothing in our number reads any postseason game. It rests on 162 regular-season games for each team, and a handful more do not move it.
The starters
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a right-hander, starts for the Dodgers: 2.53 ERA and 0.87 WHIP over 185 innings in 28 starts. Chris Sale, a left-hander, starts for the Braves: 2.16 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over 162 2/3 innings in 27 starts. Both lines are ESPN’s 2026 regular-season figures.
ERA is earned runs allowed per nine innings. WHIP is walks plus hits allowed per inning.
Our number does not use the starters. It is built from what each team did across the season, with every pitcher it used. The market’s price does account for who starts, so part of the 3.8-point gap is these two, and our method cannot say how much.
The Dodgers on the road, the Braves at home
The Dodgers went 49-32 on the road, scoring 5.26 runs a game and allowing 3.46. The Braves went 52-29 at home, scoring 4.78 and allowing 3.90. The method uses the full season for both teams, because a home or road split halves the sample.
The teams met six times in the regular season, and the Braves won five. They took two of three with the Dodgers at home in May, then all three at home from 25 to 27 August, by 4-3, 6-5 and 1-0. That is six games, and they prove nothing about this one.
The price
The Dodgers opened at -102 and the Braves at -118. Read at 06:49 UTC on 6 October, DraftKings via ESPN, they were -104 and -115. The move is small, and it is toward Los Angeles.
The market’s figure is the moneyline with the margin taken out. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so they add up to more than 100%. Here it is 4.5 points.
Pick: pass on the moneyline
No bet at Dodgers -104 or Braves -115. Our number for the Dodgers is 52.6%, the market’s is 48.8%, and a 3.8-point gap is short of the 5-point threshold.
The Dodgers become a bet at +102 or any price that pays more. The Braves would need +126. Between those two prices, it is a pass.
What changes it
The price first. Dodgers -104 to +102 is a short walk, so a drift toward Atlanta before first pitch can turn this into a bet on Los Angeles. Check it against +102.
Then the lineups. A season of runs says how these two teams played from March to September, and nothing on this page says who is in either lineup. Check them, and the starters, before you bet.
The total
The total is 6, down from an opening 6.5, with the over at -118 and the under at -102. Pass on the total.
Over the season, 104 of the 151 Braves games that did not land on 6 went over it, and 104 of 147 Dodgers games. Those games were started by every pitcher in both rotations. A postseason total is set for the two starters named, so we pass on every postseason total, this one included.
