How the number is built

Our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.

Central Michigan is 4-1 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 10.2 points a game across 5 games. Akron is 2-6 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 21.5 a game across 8 games. The difference is 31.7 points. Half of it is 15.85, which rounds to 15.9.

Five home games is a small sample, and four of them are from 2025. It is enough to form a number and not enough to trust it far.

Akron on the road

Akron lost six of its eight road games against FBS teams. In 2025 it lost 68-0 at Nebraska, 31-28 at UAB, 45-3 at Toledo and 42-28 at Ball State, and won 24-16 at Buffalo and 19-16 at Bowling Green. This season it lost 38-16 at Wake Forest and 41-7 at Minnesota.

The 68-0 game is the obvious outlier. Take it out and Akron’s road average over the other seven is -14.9. Our number would then be Central Michigan by 12.5, still 6.5 points from the spread and still a bet.

Central Michigan at home

Central Michigan beat Eastern Michigan 24-13, Massachusetts 38-13 and Buffalo 38-19 at home in 2025, and lost 21-3 to Toledo. This season it beat Wyoming 24-10 on 19 September.

That is four wins by 11 points or more in five games. The Toledo loss is the one exception.

2026 so far

Central Michigan is 2-2 and has scored 11.8 points a game. Against FBS teams it is 1-2, scoring 11.3 and allowing 33.3. It lost 38-7 at New Mexico and 52-3 at Miami on 26 September. Its other win was 13-10 over Colgate, a team outside the FBS.

Akron is 1-3, and 0-3 against FBS teams, scoring 11.0 and allowing 39.0 in those games. It lost at Wake Forest and Minnesota, then 38-10 at home to UNLV on 26 September. Its win was 45-10 over Robert Morris, a team outside the FBS.

Central Michigan’s 2026 offence is the case against the pick. Both of its losses came on the road, though, and our number is about what it does at home. This is a Mid-American Conference game, and both teams are 0-0 in the conference.

Last season

Central Michigan went 7-6 in 2025 and lost by 1.0 point a game, going 4-1 at home. Its season ended with a 34-7 loss to Northwestern on 26 December, at a neutral site.

Akron went 5-7 and lost by 5.2 a game, going 2-4 on the road. The two teams met on 4 October 2025, and Akron won 28-22 at home.
