Arizona at West Virginia Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has Arizona by 8.1 on the road. At -3, take Arizona.
Arizona is a 3-point favorite at DraftKings, the same number it opened at. Our number is Arizona by 8.1. The gap is 5.1 points, and the threshold for a bet here is 3.
This page carried no line until now. It said Arizona was a bet at -5 or shorter, and -3 is inside that range, so the side has not changed: it now has a price.
How the number is built
Our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
West Virginia is 3-4 at home against FBS teams over that span, losing by 12.1 points a game across 7 games. Arizona is 4-3 on the road against FBS teams, winning by 4.0 a game across 7 games. The difference is 16.1 points in Arizona’s favor. Half of it, from the unrounded -12.14 and 4.0, is 8.07, which rounds to 8.1.
The base is 14 games, 7 on each side, and 10 of them are from 2025. Both sides clear the 4-game minimum.
West Virginia at home
West Virginia beat Pittsburgh 31-24 and Colorado 29-22 at home in 2025, and lost 48-14 to Utah, 23-17 to TCU and 49-0 to Texas Tech. This season it beat Coastal Carolina 31-24 on 5 September and lost 41-24 to Oklahoma State on 26 September.
The Texas Tech game carries the average. Without it the other six home games average a 6.0-point loss, and our number would be Arizona by 5.0. Against -3 that is a gap of 2.0, a pass.
Arizona on the road
Arizona won 52-17 at Colorado, 30-24 at Cincinnati and 23-7 at Arizona State in 2025, and lost 39-14 at Iowa State and 31-28 at Houston. This season it lost 28-17 at BYU on 12 September and won 34-24 at Washington State on 26 September.
The Colorado win is this side’s largest result. Without it Arizona’s other six road games average a 1.2-point loss, and our number would be Arizona by 5.5, a gap of 2.5 and also a pass. The method keeps every FBS game and we do not remove results we dislike. But either one of two results, taken out alone, turns this bet into a pass.
2026 so far
Arizona is 4-1 and 3-1 against FBS teams. It beat Northern Illinois 42-17 and Cincinnati 34-7 at home, the second on 3 October, won at Washington State and lost at BYU. It also beat Northern Arizona 35-7, a team outside the FBS. Against FBS teams it has scored 31.8 points a game and allowed 19.0, a margin of +12.8.
West Virginia is 3-2 and 2-2 against FBS teams, and 0-2 in the Big 12. It beat Coastal Carolina at home and Virginia 38-27 at a neutral site, then lost to Oklahoma State and 45-42 at Iowa State on 3 October. It also beat UT Martin 52-7. Against FBS teams it has scored 33.8 and allowed 34.2, a margin of -0.5.
On this season alone Arizona is the better side by 13.3 points a game, which points the same way as our number.
Last season
Arizona went 9-4 in 2025 with an average margin of +12.2, 6-1 at home and 3-2 on the road. It lost its bowl 24-19 to SMU on 2 January 2026.
West Virginia went 4-8 at -9.1 a game, 3-3 at home and 1-5 on the road. The two teams did not meet in 2025 or so far in 2026.
The price
Arizona opened at -3 and is -3 now, read 8 October 2026 at 07:03 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN. The spread has not moved. Arizona -3 is priced at -118 and West Virginia +3 at -102.
The moneyline has moved. Arizona is -166 and West Virginia +140, from -142 and +120 at the open. With the margin removed, that prices Arizona to win 60.0% of the time. ESPN’s FPI agrees, with Arizona at 60.5%.
The market, FPI and this season’s form all have Arizona as the better team. The disagreement is about size: the market says a field goal, and our number says more than a touchdown.
Pick: Arizona -3
Arizona -3 at -118. The gap is 5.1 points against a 3-point threshold.
It rests on 14 games, split 7 and 7. The line has not moved since it opened, so the gap at the open was also 5.1.
What changes it
The line. Arizona stays a bet up to -5, where the gap is 3.1. At -5.5 it is 2.6, and the call becomes a pass. West Virginia would need +11.5 to be the bet.
The sample is the other risk, and it is the weaker part of this call. Take out the 49-0 loss to Texas Tech, or the 52-17 win at Colorado, and the gap falls under 3. A bet that two results can undo is a small one.
Availability is not stated here. Check the injury report before you bet.
The total
The total is 61.5, from 58.5 at the open. The over and the under are both -110.
Against FBS teams across 2025 and 2026, Arizona’s games went over 61.5 in 1 of 16, and West Virginia’s in 6 of 15. This season Arizona’s five games produced 42, 45, 59, 58 and 41 points, and West Virginia’s produced 55, 59, 65, 65 and 87.
Pass on the total at 61.5. Arizona’s games sit well under it and West Virginia’s 2026 games sit over it, with medians of 45 and 65. Our method gives a margin, not a total.
