Nevada at UTEP Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Our number has UTEP by 1.0. UTEP is a bet at +2 or more, Nevada at +4 or more.
No line had been posted for this game as of 28 September. Our number makes UTEP a 1-point favourite at home. A side becomes a bet when our number and the spread are 3 or more points apart, so for now the call is a price on each side.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
UTEP is 0-6 at home against FBS teams over that span, losing by 11.3 points a game across 6 games. Nevada is 1-6 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 13.3 a game across 7 games. The difference is 2.0 points. Half of it is 1.0, in UTEP’s favour.
Both samples clear our 4-game minimum. This is a number built from two losing records, and the home team gets the edge because its losses at home have been slightly smaller.
UTEP at home
UTEP lost all six. In 2025 it went down 31-25 to UL Monroe, 30-11 to Louisiana Tech, 19-8 to Liberty, 30-27 to Jacksonville State and 34-31 to New Mexico State. On 26 September 2026 it lost 33-7 to Oregon State.
Three of the six were decided by 6 points or fewer. The Oregon State game is the outlier at 26, and without it the home average would be minus 8.4 across 5 games.
Nevada on the road
Nevada’s one road win in the sample is 13-7 at Wyoming in November 2025. The losses were 46-11 at Penn State, 31-16 at Western Kentucky, 20-17 at Fresno State, 24-22 at New Mexico and 51-14 at Utah State in 2025, then 27-20 at Middle Tennessee on 19 September.
Two of those seven account for most of the average. Penn State and Utah State together cost 72 points; the other five road games average minus 4.2.
2026 so far
Nevada is 1-3 and 0-1 in the Mountain West. It opened with a 49-14 home win over Western Kentucky, then lost 20-7 at home to Montana State, a team outside the FBS, 27-20 at Middle Tennessee and 36-33 at home to Air Force. Against FBS teams it has scored 34.0 points a game and allowed 25.7.
UTEP is 1-3 and has lost two in a row. It lost 51-0 at Oklahoma and 52-17 at Michigan, beat Texas Southern 51-10, a team outside the FBS, and lost 33-7 to Oregon State. Against its three FBS opponents it has scored 8.0 a game and allowed 45.3.
ESPN’s FPI gives Nevada a 77.8% chance to win. That is a long way from our number, and the gap comes from what each measure counts: ours sees only UTEP’s home games and Nevada’s road games.
Last season
Nevada went 3-9 in 2025, scoring 17.6 points a game and allowing 27.5. UTEP went 2-10, scoring 23.3 and allowing 30.4. The two did not meet in 2025 or 2026 before this game.
Pick: UTEP +2 or more, Nevada +4 or more
No line, so no bet yet. Our number is UTEP by 1.0 on 13 games, split 6 and 7.
UTEP becomes a bet at +2 or longer, where the gap is exactly 3.0. Nevada becomes a bet at +4 or longer, also a gap of 3.0. Anything from UTEP -3.5 to UTEP +1.5 is a pass.
If the market agrees with FPI and makes Nevada the favourite, the price to watch is UTEP at +2 or more.
