How 7.2 points is reached

Our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road. It uses FBS opponents only, 2025 and 2026 together. Bowl and playoff games are played at neutral sites, so they are left out.

Cincinnati is 7-2 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 6.9 points a game. Texas Tech is 6-1 on the road against FBS teams, winning by 21.3 a game. Half the difference puts Texas Tech 7.2 points better at Nippert Stadium.

The method uses Cincinnati’s home games and Texas Tech’s road games. The rest of each team’s season is not in it. That includes the Arizona loss and Texas Tech’s 53-25 home win over Arizona State on 17 October.

Cincinnati at home, Texas Tech on the road

Cincinnati is 4-0 at home this season. Three of those wins came against FBS teams: 34-15 over Boston College, 35-31 over Miami (OH) and 31-26 over Kansas State. The fourth was 62-10 over Western Carolina, an FCS team, so the method leaves it out. In 2025 the Bearcats were 5-2 at home.

Two of Texas Tech’s seven road games against FBS teams are from this season. It won 35-24 at Oregon State on 12 September and 29-7 at Colorado on 3 October. The rest of the road sample comes from 2025, when the Red Raiders went 4-1 on the road.

That is the weak point. Texas Tech’s 2025 team outscored opponents by 27.6 points a game. Our road number leans on that season. The two road games from 2026 were both comfortable wins, but neither came at the 21.3-point pace of the full sample.

Texas Tech’s home games and Cincinnati’s road games are the halves the method leaves out. Cincinnati is 0-2 on the road this season. Texas Tech is 4-0 at home.

Pick: Cincinnati +11.5

Take Cincinnati +11.5 at -112, read 22 October 2026 at 21:09 UTC at DraftKings via ESPN. The line opened at the same number.

The gap is 4.3 points against a 3-point threshold. The bet rests on a 9-game home sample and a 7-game road sample. Both are above the 4-game minimum. Neither is large.

What kills the bet

The line. Cincinnati is a bet at +10.2 or better. Below that, the gap drops under 3 points and the call becomes a pass. Texas Tech would be the bet only at -4.2 or shorter. That is about 7 points from the current line.

This season’s evidence is the risk. Cincinnati’s -0.4 margin against FBS teams and Texas Tech’s +19.6 both point toward the market’s number. Our number trusts two seasons of venue splits over six weeks of overall form.

The ESPN game page, read 22 October 2026 at 21:08 UTC, listed no injuries for this game. No absence changes the call. Check the lineups before you bet.
