Flyers vs Sabres Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Bet the Flyers at +154. With Alex Lyon out, our number is run on Buffalo’s home games without him, and it still makes Philadelphia a 43.3% winner against the price’s 37.8%.
The Buffalo Sabres are -185 and the Philadelphia Flyers +154 at DraftKings. With the margin out, that is 62.2% for Buffalo and 37.8% for Philadelphia. Our number has the Sabres as the favourite too, by much less.
How 56.7% is reached
Our home win chance is the average of two 2025-26 rates: the home team’s win rate in its own arena and the visitor’s loss rate on the road. Overtime and shootout wins count as wins. Neither team played a game at a neutral site.
Lyon is on injured reserve (ESPN injury list, read 20 October 2026, 22:14 UTC; listed since 15 October with an upper-body injury, 31 October given as his expected return). When a team’s starting goalie is out, our method is run again on the games without him. Lyon appeared in 36 of Buffalo’s 82 games last season, more than any other Sabres goalie: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen played 35 and Colten Ellis 16. In the 23 home games Lyon did not play, Buffalo went 16-4-3, a 69.6% home win rate, scoring 95 goals and allowing 65. In the 18 he played, they went 10-6-2.
The Flyers went 23-14-4 on the road: 14 regulation losses and 4 after regulation, so 18 losses in 41, a 43.9% road loss rate. Average 69.6% with 43.9% and the Sabres are 56.7%, the Flyers 43.3%. That is 5.5 points better for Philadelphia than the price.
The full home season gives the same side with more room. The Sabres went 26-10-5 at KeyBank Center, a 63.4% home win rate; on that number Buffalo is 53.7% and the gap is 8.5 points. Taking Lyon out makes Buffalo stronger at home, not weaker, and the Flyers are still the bet.
The margin is the extra a book builds into both prices so the pair comes to more than 100%. At -185 and +154 they come to 104.3%. Taken out, the Sabres are 62.2% and the Flyers 37.8%.
Every input is from 2025-26: Buffalo’s 23 home games without Lyon and Philadelphia’s 41 road games. This season is not in the figures. The Flyers are 2-6-3 and 0-4-1 on the road, though they beat Colorado 3-2 at home on Monday. Joseph Woll has played six of their games and Dan Vladar five. The Sabres are 4-3-2, 3-2-0 at home, and lost 4-3 in overtime in Montreal on Saturday. Luukkonen has played seven of their games and Ellis three.
Buffalo at home, Philadelphia on the road
Over the full season the Sabres at home scored 3.63 a game and allowed 2.90, a surplus of 0.73. The Flyers on the road scored 3.39 and allowed 3.17, a surplus of 0.22.
The halves the method leaves out: Buffalo on the road went 24-13-4, a 58.5% win rate, scoring 3.39 and allowing 2.98. Philadelphia at home went 20-13-8, 48.8%, scoring 2.71 and allowing 2.76. The Flyers won a larger share of their games away from home than in their own arena.
Over the full season these two finished 11 points apart. The Sabres went 50-23-9 with 109 points and outscored opponents by 47, then beat Boston 4-2 in the playoffs before losing 4-3 to Montreal. The Flyers went 43-27-12 with 98 points and outscored opponents by 7, beat Pittsburgh 4-2, then were swept 4-0 by Carolina.
Philadelphia lived in close games. The Flyers went 17-5-12 in one-goal games and won 16 of the 28 that went past regulation. Buffalo went 15-3-9 in one-goal games and won 8 of its 17 past 60 minutes. Where the Sabres pulled clear was the bigger margins: they won by two goals or more in 35 of 82 games.
The Sabres won two of the three meetings in 2025-26. Both were in Buffalo and both are in the Flyers’ road half: a 5-3 Sabres win on 18 December with Lyon in goal, which is not in the re-run, and a 5-2 Sabres win on 14 January with Luukkonen in goal, which is. Philadelphia’s 5-2 win at home on 3 December is in neither half.
Pick: Flyers +154
Bet the Flyers on the moneyline at +154. The gap is 5.5 points toward Philadelphia on Buffalo’s home games without Lyon, against a threshold of 5, and 8.5 on the full home season.
The line read Sabres -185 and Flyers +154 on 20 October 2026 at 22:14 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN. It opened at -192 and +160.
What kills the bet
A shorter Philadelphia price. Against Buffalo at -185, the Flyers stay a bet down to +148; at +162 or longer they are a bet whatever Buffalo is priced at.
For the Sabres to become the bet, they would have to be -107 or longer. They are -185.
The rest is on the ice. Philadelphia’s start to this season is poor, and none of it is in our number. Rasmus Dahlin, Sam Carrick and Justin Danforth are day-to-day for Buffalo with upper-body injuries, and Jason Zucker is on injured reserve. Tyson Foerster is day-to-day for Philadelphia with a hand injury, and Owen Tippett, Cam York, Rasmus Ristolainen and Travis Konecny are on injured reserve. Lyon is the only goalie on either list. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the puck line
The total is 5.5, over -135 and under +114. The Sabres’ games went over 5.5 in 50 of 82, the Flyers’ in 44 of 82. Buffalo’s home games averaged 6.53 goals, Philadelphia’s road games 6.56.
That is 61.0% and 53.7%, an average of 57.3% for the over. With the margin removed the over is priced at 55.1% and the under at 44.9%, so our number leans to the over by 2.2 points. Pass on the total.
On the puck line, Buffalo is -1.5 at +130 and Philadelphia +1.5 at -155, which is 41.7% and 58.3% without the margin. Over the full season the Sabres won by two goals or more in 35 of 82 games, and the Flyers lost by two or more in 22 of 82. Averaged, Sabres -1.5 lands 34.8% of the time against 41.7% priced, a gap of 6.9 points toward Flyers +1.5 at -155. Our method stakes the moneyline only, so this is a lean, on the same side. One bet on this game: the Flyers at +154.
