Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
Take Borussia Dortmund to win at Bayern Munich. The market makes them a 13.1% chance. We make them 20.7%.
That 7.6-point gap is the whole argument, and it clears the 5 points we require before an outcome is a bet. Borussia Dortmund at Bayern Munich kicks off Saturday 31 October at 1:30 PM ET, at the Allianz Arena.
DraftKings has Bayern Munich at -310, the draw at +425 and Borussia Dortmund at +600, read 30 October 2026 at 03:07 UTC. A book builds in a margin, the extra that makes its prices add to more than 100%, and here it is 8.9%. With the margin removed, the market reads Bayern 69.4%, the draw 17.5% and Dortmund 13.1%.
Our number is Bayern 60.3%, the draw 19.0% and Dortmund 20.7%. Dortmund sit 7.6 points above the market, the draw 1.5 above and Bayern 9.1 below. One outcome clears 5 points, so there is one bet.
How 20.7% is reached
Each side’s expected goals start from the league’s average goals at that venue. They are then scaled by the side’s scoring rate at its venue and the opponent’s conceding rate at the other venue, both measured against that average. A Poisson model, a standard way to turn an average goal count into the chance of each score, turns the two figures into a home win, a draw and an away win.
Bayern have 3 home games this season and Dortmund 3 away, one short of the method’s 4. Both clubs therefore run on 2025-26: 17 games a side, against that season’s averages over 306 games of 1.78 goals for the home side and 1.46 for the visitor.
Bayern’s home scoring last season was 2.25 times the league’s home rate, and Dortmund conceded on the road at 0.60 of it. That gives Bayern 2.38 expected goals. Dortmund’s away scoring was 1.21 times the visitor’s rate, and Bayern conceded at home at 0.77 of it, which leaves Dortmund 1.35.
The 1.35 carries the bet. At +600 the market prices Dortmund as a side that barely threatens in Munich. Last season they scored 1.76 a game away, and Bayern let in 1.12 a game at home. Bayern stay clear favourites at 2.38 against 1.35, but at 60.3%, not 69.4%.
This season so far
Seven games in, the two clubs are level on 17 points, both 5-2-0. Bayern lead the table on 25 scored and 6 conceded. Dortmund are second on 12 scored and 4 conceded. None of this is in our number.
The venue records are three games each. Bayern are 3-0-0 at home, 18 scored and 2 conceded, which is 6.00 and 0.67 a game against 4.0 and 1.12 last season. Dortmund are 2-1-0 away, 4 scored and 2 conceded, which is 1.33 and 0.67 a game against 1.76 and 1.06. In our view Bayern’s home start and Dortmund’s lower away scoring would both push the number toward Bayern, while Dortmund’s lower away conceding would pull it back. Three games proves nothing either way, and under the method’s 4 neither counts.
Bayern at home, Dortmund on the road
The method uses one half of each club’s 2025-26 season. Bayern at home went 14-2-1 in 17, scoring 68 and conceding 19, 4.0 and 1.12 a game. Dortmund away went 9-5-3 in 17, scoring 30 and conceding 18, 1.76 and 1.06 a game.
The other halves are left out. Bayern away went 14-3-0, 54 scored and 17 conceded, 3.18 and 1.00 a game. Dortmund at home went 13-2-2, 40 scored and 16 conceded, 2.35 and 0.94 a game.
The season around it
Last season Bayern finished 1st of 18 with 89 points from 28-5-1, scoring 122 and conceding 36. Dortmund were 2nd with 73 points from 22-7-5, scoring 70 and conceding 34. This season they are again 1st and 2nd, on the same points.
ESPN lists five meetings since November 2024. Bayern won three and two were draws. With Dortmund the listed home side it finished 1-1 on 30 November 2024, Bayern won 3-2 on 28 February 2026, and Bayern won 2-1 on 22 August 2026. With Bayern at home it finished 2-2 on 12 April 2025, and Bayern won 2-1 on 18 October 2025.
Only the October 2025 game is inside our number, as one of Bayern’s 17 home games and one of Dortmund’s 17 away. The other four are outside it.
Pick: Borussia Dortmund +600
Dortmund to win, at +600 with DraftKings, read 30 October 2026 at 03:07 UTC. Our 20.7% is 7.6 points above the market’s 13.1%, against a threshold of 5. This page has a single price read and no opening price to set beside it.
A draw loses this bet. Our 19.0% on the draw is 1.5 points above the market’s 17.5%, short of the threshold, so the draw is not a second bet.
What kills the bet
The price. Dortmund stay a bet at +485 or longer; shorter than that, the gap falls under 5 points. Bayern would become the bet at -151 or longer, against -310 now, and the draw at +556 or longer. Each of those assumes the 8.9% margin holds.
The team sheets. This page says nothing about who is available on 31 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
The sample. Both clubs are one game short of the 4 that would put this season’s venue records into the method, and the number will move once they count.
The total
The total is 3.5 goals, over -155 and under +125. Without the margin the market has the over at 57.8% and the under at 42.2%. Our number has the over at 51.3% and the under at 48.7%, 6.5 points below the market on the over. The method never bets goals, so this is for reference only.
Five of Bayern’s 7 league games this season went over 3.5, and 26 of 34 last season. For Dortmund it was 2 of 7 this season and 11 of 34 last. Our number puts the over at 2.5 goals at 72.1%; there is no price for that line here.
