The Thunder Can Win If…

Oklahoma City’s season record now stands at 46-11 after a 131-128 home loss to the Timberwolves on Monday. The Thunder, who were favored by 11.5 points, not only lost but also failed to cover the spread. The game’s total points reached 259, surpassing the O/U line of 228 by 31 points.

OKC appeared to be in control, leading 102-80 after three quarters. However, the Timberwolves stormed back in the 4th, outscoring the Thunder 41-19, including a 16-0 run that extended their lead from 121-106 to 137-106.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the standout performer for the Thunder in their 131-128 loss to the Timberwolves, finishing with 39 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists, shooting 55% from the field and hitting 3 threes at a 60% clip. Jalen Williams added 27 points, while Aaron Wiggins contributed 19 points and 7 rebounds.

Thunder Can Win

As a team, the Thunder made 15 threes, but shot just 30.6% from beyond the arc and 42.5% overall. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 11 points in the 1st quarter and added 10 more in the 3rd, while Williams scored 8 points in both the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Despite a strong defensive effort in the 2nd quarter, where the Thunder held the Timberwolves to just 17 points, they struggled in the 3rd and 4th, giving up 35 and 41 points, respectively, in a 131-128 loss. Oklahoma City did well in limiting Minnesota’s three-point shooting, holding them to 28% from beyond the arc with just 9 made threes.

The Thunder sent the Timberwolves to the free-throw line 39 times, where they converted 34 attempts. Oklahoma City finished with 37 defensive rebounds, allowing 11 offensive boards. They also added 10 steals and 8 blocks in the game.

  • Although Oklahoma City has a straight up record of 3-2 in their last five road games, they have not held up as well vs. the spread going 2-3. The team averaged 119 points per game in these games.
  • Across their last three matchups as the betting favorite, the Thunder have an overall record of 2-1 while going 1-2 against the spread.
  • Over their last five games, the Thunder have an over/under record of 3-2 and are 1-3-1 vs. the spread.

The Nets Can Win If…

The Nets fell to 21-36 on the season after a 107-99 loss to the Wizards on Monday. Brooklyn, favored by three points, not only lost but also failed to cover the spread. The game’s total of 206 points came in under the pre-game line of 218.

Brooklyn went on a 10-0 run to extend their lead from 67-59 to 77-59, but they couldn’t hold on. After outscoring the Wizards 28-18 in the 3rd quarter, the Nets were up 87-85 heading into the 4th, but they managed just 12 points in the final period while allowing 22.

The Nets struggled offensively in their 99-point effort against the Wizards, shooting just 39.3% from the field. They did find some success from beyond the arc, hitting 14 threes at a 38.9% clip.

Nets Can Win

Ziaire Williams led the way with 19 points, knocking down 5 threes at 71.4%. Cameron Johnson added 17 points, scoring 10 in the 2nd quarter, while Tyrese Martin chipped in 15 points, with 6 coming in the opening period.

Despite a strong defensive effort in the 3rd and 4th quarters, the Nets couldn’t overcome their early struggles, allowing 67 points in the 1st half in a 107-99 loss to the Wizards. Brooklyn gave up 30 points in the 1st quarter and 37 in the 2nd, as Washington shot 50% from the field.

The Nets also had trouble defending the three, with the Wizards hitting 13 threes at a 41% clip. Brooklyn sent Washington to the line 25 times, where they made 24 free throws. The Nets finished with 16 steals and 4 blocks.

  • When looking at their past ten home matchups, Brooklyn has an ATS record of 6-4 while averaging 103 per game. The team went 4-6 overall in these games.
  • Through their last five games as the underdog, the Nets have an ATS record of 4-1 and a straight up mark of 4-1.

The Lean

Our bet is on the Thunder for a win, and we project the score to be 138-83. Additionally, we expect them to cover the spread, so our recommendation is to wager on the Thunder with the spread at -17.

As for the over/under, the the line is currently at 217.5, and our model projects the Thunder and Nets to reach a combined total of 221 points. Our bet is on taking the over.

Thunder Hope to Learn from Collapse, Move On to Face Nets

The Oklahoma City Thunder have dominated for most of the season, rarely playing close games or faltering in the fourth quarter. However, Monday night’s matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves proved to be an exception, as they let a massive lead slip away in a 131-128 overtime loss.

Two nights later, the Thunder will aim to avoid back-to-back losses for just the second time this season when they visit the Brooklyn Nets.

Oklahoma City has played 18 games decided by single digits and only five by five points or fewer. The Thunder played consecutive tight games against Minnesota, winning 130-123 on Sunday before collapsing in Monday’s rematch.

The Thunder led by as many as 25 points and carried a 22-point lead into the fourth quarter before being outscored 41-19. They also surrendered the final 16 points of regulation.

“It hurts in the moment,” Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said. “But we have (25) games left. The 82-game season is an opportunity to get better 82 times. If this is what it takes for us to learn, this is what it takes for us to learn. It’s a lesson at the end of the night. We’ll try to get better from it.”

Gilgeous-Alexander posted 39 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists but missed key shots in both regulation and overtime that could have saved Oklahoma City from defeat.

Thunder Look to Rebound Against Surging Nets

Oklahoma City is 11-4 since their last meeting with Brooklyn on Jan. 19, when they dominated in a 127-101 win. In that game, the Thunder shot 55.2 percent and drained 19 three-pointers.

The Nets, however, have turned their season around since their midseason struggles. After enduring a seven-game losing streak, Brooklyn has gone 7-3 in its last 10 games and is creeping into the Eastern Conference play-in race.

Despite that progress, the Nets fell short against the Washington Wizards on Monday, losing 107-99 after a poor fourth quarter in which they were outscored 22-12. Brooklyn shot just 39.3 percent overall and committed 18 turnovers in the loss.

“Our guys always work and respond,” Nets coach Jordi Fernandez said. “Whether it’s a win or a loss, the approach is to go back, work, and show up the next game and compete at a high level.”

Nets Await Russell’s Return

Brooklyn was without D’Angelo Russell for the second straight game, and they have struggled without him, going 1-7 in his absence since reacquiring him from the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell injured his ankle last Thursday and remains questionable. If he is unable to play, Killian Hayes will likely get another start.

Ziaire Williams led the Nets with 19 points against Washington, hitting five three-pointers, while Cameron Johnson added 17 but struggled in the fourth quarter, going 0-of-5.

Can the Thunder Regain Their Form?

After a rare late-game collapse, Oklahoma City looks to get back on track and maintain its grip on a top seed in the Western Conference. Brooklyn, meanwhile, continues its push for postseason contention. Who will bounce back stronger?
